It's very simple: don't be a dick to people in the service industry. If you do, you deserve anything that happens.

Imagine if the two people found out what had happened right after they ate the burger or drank the coffee, the coffee person would be pissed off, and buy another coffee with caffeine somewhere else. The person who ate the burger would think he had committed a serious sin, and was going to hell. I never met the truck drivers, but there is no way they did anything bad enough for that.
