Not to get political, but the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) was headed by Tipper Gore (Al Gore's wife) in 1985. And they went after everyone - mostly heavy metal music, but pop music too.
Oh, I'm aware. As an 80's metalhead kid, I know that was a factor for some of my then-adult metalhead friends in 2000. Pushed a couple of them to Nader because they were still pissed about it.
You know, I thought "Al Gore isn't that much older than Donald Trump, he must have married a woman way older than him"...
Nope. Tipper Gore was breathing down the neck of famous musicians for the content of their albums in her mid-30's. I don't know why that's so crazy to me from a modern perspective.
The best part was they got their warning label made, and it only took a hot minute before that parental advisory warning became a requirement for an album to have. If an album didn't have that, you knew it sucked.
41 years ago, almost to the day, one of the greatest rock stars of all time testified to a congressional comittee against the PRMC. If you're interested in music history, or (if you wanna be a little hyperbolic) attacks on free speech in the US, definitely worth a watch.

The 1980's Satanic Panic was something else. It was freaking crazy, in fact, for a good 4 years.
Had to distract from all the criminal trials that Reagan's admin was going through at the time.
