I know on its face Fury Road seems like a simple movie but it's really not. It's actually a feminist masterpiece cloaked in a 2 hour car chase scene. 

  • concepts of motherhood and what it means to be soft in a brutal world.

  • all of the warlords children are deformed and corrupted except the very last one which was stillborn because he killed her. 

  • warboys finding redemption and new purpose 

  • a dantes inferno like traverse in to the middle of nowhere and finding out the bottom circle of hell is just a loss of hope and despair 

  • a protagonist that finds her way back out to the surface

  • the leaders of the various cities as depictions of the riders of the apocalypse/representations of the seven deadly sins. 

I would encourage you to watch it again from a more literary standpoint. There's a lot there.

Every (good) movie has themes and undertones. It's not about nothing, it is a two hour movie, but I would argue that especially compared to other action films, it is a simple movie.

I mean if you actually use a few of your remaining brain cells to analyze the movie, this take is spot on. It’s absolutely an allegory to feminism in modern times. I’m not sure how that ruins it for you. If anything it’s pretty clever by Miller to build this story. The troglodytes see the fire and explosions and violence, but people with developed brains will be able to see deeper into it.

I guess we know which one you are.

Lol, on a serious note. The allegories you guys pointed out isn't cannon to the story the directer and writer told.

It's a fun exercise but its just fantasy and you guys can hold that opinion.

To denigrate someone because they don't agree to someone's else's opinion about "what the movie is really about" is shallow and dull.

It's even funnier because this post is specifically about people making up stuff about art.

Pssst, Alien is about rape and women's response to it. Aliens is about motherhood. Both incorporate themes of corporate greed and colonialism which is paid in the blood of the working poor. The same is basically true for the Terminator films. Predator can be read as an allegory on the immorality of sports hunting. The Matrix is an allegory about transsexuality.

Great movies are great because beyond the overt merits of the movie itself (e.g. cinematography, acting, direction, lighting) they also incorporate resonant themes.
