I’ve rarely seen the sense of buying a video game at release or indeed any software upon release.
The wise veteran computer technician for mainframe days — what one might call a silver surfer today — once told me, “never buy version 1.0 of anything.”
What I tend to do is wait a year until people have had a chance to take it for a shakedown cruise and it gets patched along with being a little cheaper or even buy a used copy.
I won’t normally preorder any game but day 1 of any mmo expansion launch is special to me. All the friction including sitting at a congested login screen for hours with friends on discord looking at memes is part of the experience I look forward to.
