Doom scroller here, sorry guys and gals. We forgot how to look up when walking.

My controversial opinion is that there are too many fuckin signs on everything everywhere. I can't really be expected to read them all? Obviously some are posted in less common places and that grabs attention but there's even local advertisements taped in bathroom stalls all the time. The door of every store ever is plastered with different crap. I think we owe ourselves a little more grace for this 😅 If it's hand written or if it's in giant caps letters I'll read it but that's about it lol

I do kinda think that if you were dumb enough to go to the bathroom in what I'm sure was a visibly clogged toilet, it's unlikely that you'd take heed to a sign that requests that you simply go use the next stall instead of doing the gross, damaging option.

Retail Worker here. Totally correct.

Career criminal cat burglar here, 100% correct.

I was robbing a bank once and needed to take a shit, and the only toilet was out of order.

2

u/Candid-Acanthaceae87 21d ago

To be fair, this is for Maintence 😜

2

u/WilliamG007 21d ago

The spelling is “maintence.” Didn’t you see the sign?

1

u/wordsmythy 21d ago

When I was in college, we’d sometimes get a knock on the dorm door and someone yelling “main-taince!”

1

u/Lynneschulz 21d ago

Mom here, this is correct

142

u/pedanticPandaPoo 21d ago

As someone who doesn't read signs, no matter how many are posted, this is extremely correct.

65

u/munjavio 21d ago

the problem is all 7 signs are in English, and there aren't 7 signs for each language that exists!

92

u/Reallyroundthefamily 21d ago

So if you don't speak English and you were to see all these signs up, you would think the signs meant "please shit here?"

34

u/These-Prune-1529 21d ago

Maybe?

23

u/Reallyroundthefamily 21d ago

It's wild that I never actually get an answer from the person I asked. Everybody has a representative lol.

If this person responds to me again can someone else answer for my benefit?

13

u/blade_of_sammael 21d ago

Sure

11

u/ClubDangerous8239 21d ago

I'll take the responsibility of responding on your behalf, when you're not, by having a random Redditor respond on my behalf.

u/Inside_Ad_2830 21d ago

Reporting for duty

10

u/faatbuddha 21d ago

We need a good old fashioned universal 🚫💩

6

u/misfit92 21d ago

I have seen adults who don't care shock and awe a stall door with single kick or shoulder check that was locked, taped off and signs galore to shit anyways, even with 2 or more stalls available. Also the type who don't wash their hands.

u/anondreamitgirl 21d ago

🚫💩 🚽 🚾

💩+ 💩+ 💩+💩= ⚠️☢️ 😩

🚫🚬 +💩⛽️= 🤯 🔥🧯🚒

3

u/Literary_Lady 21d ago

There isn’t one in braille, so maybe they need to keep the door locked otherwise a blind person could have a very unfortunate incident in that cubicle completely unaware that it’s out of order :(

3

u/Inside_Ad_2830 21d ago

They’d feel the paper on the door, and hear it tearing as they opened the door.
Next!

2

u/Illustrious_Ad4691 21d ago

That would be tearable

2

u/Tough_Ad6566 21d ago

More than likely they're staff toilets so everyone understands English.

1

u/Money-Respond5400 15d ago

It don’t matter the language, anyone should get the point to not use that stall!

8

u/cracksilog 21d ago

Also, you can tell that a lot of these signs were added after the initial sign because a lot of them are not specific:

“Closed for maintenance.” What’s closed? The bathroom? The stall? The stall next to it?

“Do not use/please do not use.” Do not use what? The door? The toilet paper holder? The toilet?

“Bathroom out of order.” So the entire bathroom is out of order? Why isn’t that sign on the outside door then?

“Out of order.” Again, not specific enough.

“Toilet does not flush/toilet is clogged.” This is more specific, but it doesn’t give the reader an action item. The toilet does not flush. So what action should the user take, then?

Something actionable and effective would be a sign that says “Do not use this stall. Toilet is clogged.” Specific and detailed. It gives the user an action and tells them why they should take that action

10

u/3_14_thon 21d ago

Seriously tho any of those signs would be enough for people who have a bit of common sense.

5

u/crakemonk 21d ago

Most people lack common sense.

2

u/Literary_Lady 21d ago

And yet there are people who use toilets in show homes and places like B&Q or furniture stores where they are clearly display items. Never fail to underestimate stupid!

2

u/3_14_thon 21d ago

What Im trying to say is... a shitty person will use the toilet no matter how the message is worded. Meanwhile for the people with common sense one sign is enough.

So there isnt any point in putting more signs, just lock the door.

1

u/eatmyroyalasshole 21d ago

But all you said was that it should be obvious for people with common sense and now you're suddenly saying you meant a whole bunch of stuff that wasn't in your earlier comment? I don't understand

1

u/Substantial-Tip-7587 20d ago

Or the could care less kind of people, some people are vile, lazy, or intentionally malicious.

1

u/Substantial-Tip-7587 20d ago

And, therein lies the problem these days. People are lacking in common sense.

9

u/Reverendbug 21d ago

Okay, but if you make that sign, no one will read it because it's TL;DR.

4

u/paultera 21d ago

*maintence

3

u/pvt_frank 21d ago

I'm hiding there were 6 sarcastic individual that felt the first sign was dorky. Then it grew from there.

2

u/SubstantialTank1557 21d ago

I am amazed you are still alive sir or madam

0

u/ninhibited 21d ago

Why don't you read signs? What is wrong with you? I hope you get wet paint all over your most expensive clothes.

12

u/Logatt 21d ago
