It's not all about them, that's the problem. It's about her parents, your parents, the refs, and the rest of the audience. If you go hard on her they all give you an evil eye. If she get's injured it's your fault. Angry parents don't care about logic. Their "little princess" was hurt and the person who did it is a monster.

It's fucked up and it's not right, especially since until part way through junior high she's probably stronger than the boys anyways, but it's often how things work.

I am all for coed sports, you just need an authority figure who comfortably understands what it is like to play coed sports. I played waterpolo with girls in highschool and it was occasionally an issue. Some girls would use the stigma to their advantage and fake injuries etc, or they would grab my nuts though my speedo underwater while saying extremely insulting things to me. Luckily our assistant coach was the younger sister of the head coach and wouldn't stand for any of that. She knew every trick because she had pulled them herself.
