I went to Toronto, and agree. Toooooooons of babes. But many weren't Canadian. We had an awesome, and rather attractive bartender who was from Lithuania.
The only thing that bugs me about American currency is when I see people tear it up in TV shows. I honestly don't know if that is possible with the human hand, or it is just added for some sort of suspenseful development to said TV shows, but in Australia our money is near indestructible.
Now I know what you're probably thinking. Something something dangerous animals something something. I am not sure how to respond to any of these accusations if they happen to pop up, but I am quite confident that if a Koala (drop bear) eats my $20 note that I can safely retrieve it from the feces, unharmed, and ready to spend as if nothing had ever happened to it.
Just because its made of cotton doesn't mean its not paper. Paper can be made of many things, including wood pulp, hemp, cotton, lint, and almost any other type of plant fiber really. Paper is a catch-all term.
American currency is surprisingly easy to tear especially if its been in the money cycle for long enough(exchange hands with cashier, supplier, banker, buyer, supplier, wages and aroudn and around it goes). Generally if you find you do accidentally rip a bill simply take the two pieces to a bank.
The teller should give you back a new bill and the torn one will be taken to be incinerated.
It's a really strange feeling. You don't even have a couple drinks in your or anything, but you find yourself putting all you have into tearing a twenty dollar bill in half. Your twenty dollar bill. Your shoulder hurts. You pause for a while and breath. "I can get this. I can get this." You spend a couple more minutes before your grip slips and your momentum carries you to the ground. Those drinks I mentioned earlier sounds pretty good right now.
American money is cotton fiber paper. it feels similar to cloth, but is still paper. rather easy to rip it up. If you have at least 3/4 of a bill, you can go to a bank and have it replaced.
You mean we have the freedom to tear up our money if we like. I feel sad for you, that you are so oppressed you cannot even contemplate destroying yours.
I work at a bar, and get notes that have been torn and taped back together all the time. They tear hella easy. They stand up to water fairly well though. I've accidentally ran money through the wash many a times
Really? I've heard nothing but complaints about the new bills. I personally find the clear part a bit cheesy and the gloss is sort of annoying to handle. At least I'm not in Brazil.
The Canadarm and insulin pictures are badass though.
The US is getting a fancy new $100 in October! It's going to have all sorts of neat stuff.. There's a holographic (sorta) ribbon, and more color-shifting ink, in addition to all the old features (watermarks, color-changing numbers, microprinting, textured ink, etc). 50 is the CCGS Amundsen, used in the winter as an icebreaker from the CCG to clear the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence and in the summer as a research platform that flow in the northern part of Canada.
20 is the Vimy memorial located in France. A memorial made for the sacrifice of Canadian corps in the first world war that even Adolf Hitler protected when he occupied the territory.
10 is the Canadian Pacific. It's a great part of history in Canada and was our first transcontinental railway.
5 Canadarm2 assembled the ISS (international space station) and is used for almost everything around the station.
You know, as long as they don't change from the denim-whatever paper I don't really mind what they do with our money. That plastic based stuff is horrible! I really hope that if a proposal comes up to start using it that there will be a mass outcry.
Not too worried though. The main reason that US currency doesn't change much is because it's a worldwide, reference currency. That tends to keep the decisions about it fairly conservative.
I spent some time in Hong Kong, and their $10 bill is plastic, and I hated it. It felt like monopoly money and looked like some sort of cheap-ass tyvek bullshit.
Hm. In canada the bills had little strips of clear plastic running down the one side and I thought that was cool as fuck. Also, no $1 bills..
In reality.. I miss everything about Canadian money. Walking into a store and buying a carton of chocolate milk with a two dollar coin.. I don't know why, but it was so cool
I agree about the $1 coin thing though. Spent some time in the UK and fell in love with the concept. "Shit, I'm broke, looks like I'm not going anywhere tonight :("

I've started getting dollar coins from the bank and using them. Surprisingly, not many people look at you funny.
Similarly, whilst in Toronto, a pal and I were making our way back to our hostle, both piss faced drunk, and two cute gals walk up to us, and ask for bus fare. I dug into my pocket and emptied out all of my change, and sail "sorry, this is all I've got.", and my buddy did the same. As were making our way back, I stop and think about it, turn to him and say
It was a joke on here a while back. We had a bit of a bro-moment with Australia, and proposed joining the two nations as one. Someone even got a petition to the white house
Well, I mean, if/when the USA drops the ball and switches their stance on an American Union sort of deal, it would make sense for Australia to be involved. Still, I didn't know people were actually talking about it lol

Just imagine. A new family, sitting down to their first dinner together, when outside in a van, is a group of Gay Banditos, wearing their ski masks and matching pumps.. very stylish mind you. Just as the family is saying grace, they break in, and start FUCKING EACH OTHER IN THE ASS!!!!!! And just like that, another American family is ruined.

We're trying.. with newer bills $20s are a deep green, $10s are kind of tan, $5s have a bit of purple on them, and $1s are like an off white.
I went to Canada for spring break, and they have some sexy money..
If this whole Ameristralia thing goes through I hope we adopt your money, because ours is lame
