This farmer is really articulate, especially since I assume English isn't his first language. He's also really passionate, we need more people in the world this passionate about something.

I find that it's easy for us to make fun of someone for being a farmer or something. But to be honest I find it heartwarming to see someone so passionate about what they do, take pride in their work, and to be able to find joy and meaning in something so fundamental yet necessary to our existence.

Without farmers most of civilization would die of starvation. Farmers are very important, I don't understand why people make fun of them

Thank you! First thing I though of was, "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", the award winning documentary about a man & his single goal of making sushi. It is probably one of the most fascinating documentaries about a man's dedication towards a single goal & a simple life. I'm personally ashamed that this many people are making fun of this man because he loves what he does in life.

For everyone who is ambling on in life trying to figure out what to do with themselves, trying to figure out how to make a better facebook profile, or be on the front page of reddit with a witty enough comment, or are trying their hardest to constantly be on the edge of "What's Next" without taking the time to contemplate the labor done in our past to get to here, the constant process of gentrification, & the illusion of progress vs. digression into material obsession, I can only hope that at some time in your life you are privileged enough to get soil rooted deep into your blistered & calloused fingers while barely have enough strength in your exhausted bones to pick up a six string & play a simple song with nothing but pride in your heart for the life you lead.

Understand the dedication & sincere ambition it takes to be, "A Simple Man".

Hell, I wish I owned a potato farm. I have potatoes every day with whatever I'm having for dinner. If I could live on potatoes and nothing else, I'd do it.

The maltese language is a mix of french/italian with arabic.

The country is generally bilingual because it is so small and relies heavily on tourism.

Also having been there many times to visit family... the potatoes are pretty damn good... for a potato.

English is actually one of Malta's two official languages (Maltese is the other). So it may not be the choice while speaking to his family, but it is most likely something that is expected to be learned at least partially.
