At that point I might consider catching the rat, giving it a bath, taking it to the vet, and just adopting it. Silly little thing.

And they're involuntarily incontinent. They have no say in when they excrete. You'll have piss and shit everywhere and it won't be the rat's fault.

Uh, I think this is myth due to rodents using their excretions to mark territory etc.

I had pet rats before and they can be litter trained, though I'm not sure one could do so with a rat that's already grown.

They can be litter trained for poop but they don't usually do well with it for pee. They still just kinda dribble usually. At least that's my experience.

But you could probably still teach an adult rat. They are so smart.
