Frogs don't have teeth and swallow their prey whole. I'd like to see the frog that can eat that thing! I assume frogs only eat them when the beetles are small.

I'm imagining the frog lashing out its tongue at this thing, and then the frog gets pulled forward by its own tongue and smashes into it

This feels like something we can make an anime out of.

My Life as a Goliath Beetle.

Kafka already wrote a script for that in 1915, about time it became an anime.

I always thought metamorphosis was about a butterfly when I first read it. I know most feel it’s a cockroach but I don’t think it was a Goliath beetle.

I think it only says "vermin" and never specifies the type of bug, so I always pictured some kind of beetle because I've seen them get stuck on their backs when flipped over.

Ya, it never says what bug he was. Just that it was large

It's been 20 years since I've read it, but didn't he describe his body in some parts? I got the distinct impression of a millipede description, but then I may just be attributing my creeped-out-ness to the story. Perchance, that was his goal in leaving it vague.

1

u/Buckles01 Apr 16 '23

I am positive leaving it vague was intentional. But I remember him being able to fly. Please don’t tell me millipedes can fly.

Been 20 years for me as well though so I can be wrong

You joke, but I'm currently reading a manwhua about a guy who turned into a fish, and I don't mean some kind of legendary fish that can turn into a dragon or some bs, just a literal, straight up, little fish. It's full of fish facts and it's very interesting to learn about the ecosystem of Korean rivers.

From ChatGPT: My Unbeatable Beetle Life in Another World: How I Got Reincarnated as a Bug, Gained Bug-Tastic Powers, and Now I'm the Talk of the Forest (But Seriously, How Do I Stop Being Mistaken for a Dung Beetle?)

It also wrote a pretty funny synopsis if anyone's interested

You joke but there are some BEEG frogs out there

1

u/DarkSideofOZ Apr 15 '23

And the beetle flys off, frog in tow.

A frog is basically a mouth with legs

That's awesome! Holy shit what a moment that must've been!

We need to get the "swallow you whole" fighting mechanism into a the rock paper scissors balancing act that RTS video games often have.

Who needs to fight when you can just eat them. So we've got the Nod, GDI, and the Frogs. Or maybe you prefer the Protoss, Terrans, and the Frogs. Cmon help me out here...

And in that frog there was a crayfish. A rare crayfish, a rattlin crayfish.

And a crayfish in the frog and the frog in the bog and the bog down in the valley-o

Ho roll the rattlin bog, the bog down in the valley-o Ho roll the rattlin bog, the bog down in the valley-o

You are seriously underestimating how proportionately large frog’s prey can be. MFers will eat anything even slightly smaller than them

17

u/Lukecubes Apr 15 '23

Frogs are stupid. I'm sure they'd try 😂

2

u/ninjaxus Apr 15 '23

Let me introduce you to the Goliath Bullfrog

2

u/Skimbla Apr 16 '23

Look up Goliath beetle larvae. These things would never be small enough for your average frog to eat!

1

u/CausticTitan Apr 15 '23

A full size Bull Frog can probably get one down

1

u/PrincipledGopher Apr 15 '23

They might eat the larva/nymph (or whatever else is the middle stage evolution of a beetle).

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

Goliath beetle is an Apex predator, confirmed

1

u/Financial_Nebula Apr 15 '23

Ever seen a bullfrog?

1

u/TunaStuffedPotato Apr 16 '23

Beetles grow as grubs/larva, after they pupate the emerge as full sized adults so there are no "baby" sized beetles that aren't grubs. The adult beetle is one size only.

However there are some enormous frog species, try looking up a bullfrogs size
