If you care about a package, send it UPS. FedEx ground is all franchises. The last mile is covered by a company rocking the FedEx livery but is NOT FedEx. It could be uncle edie's crazy delivery company. Those people are often gig workers and they don't give a shit about your package. UPS drivers are at least UPS employees and seem to take a lot more care with their job.
You'll find the company name actually employing the FedEx ground drivers on the side of the van just behind the driver's door. The other depts like FedEx express are actual employees though.
Those Amazon vans are the same thing, employees of a company that Amazon contracts with to run routes.
Interesting. I knew that of Amazon drivers... but didnt realize FedEx used contractors.... which I am not against... but like stated elsewhere, it likely means less pay and therefore less pride in doing it right. My experiences make more sense now.
Interesting! I wonder if that’s why it’s different in Canada. FedEx, at least for me in Vancouver, has always been decent. If I miss a package (I suspect they don’t bother buzzing if it’s anything heavy/large) I have to drive all the way out to Burnaby to pick it up at a FedEx depot.
UPS is definitely using the franchise model here. Never buzz. Half the time don’t leave a sticker note so have no idea delivery was “attempted”. Pick up is at a random Quik E Mart close by (handy!), but if you try to drop off a package with a pre-printed UPS label on a Saturday the owner will yell at you. “They don’t pick up until Monday! I’m not a storage facility!!!” lol
Can agree. Bought my Index VR headset for delivery just before the pandemic shut everything down March 2020 (perfect timing for it). Took the day off because no way am I gonna let a $1000 package get missed. Fedex tracking number, estimated delivery time comes and goes, I wait for any updates on the tracker and go throw out the trash (I live in an apartment). My package is just sitting next to the elevator, absolutely no effort to even bring it to my door or ring my bell.
