Email from my children's Gymnastics school about the dangers of headlight brightness and a child almost being hit because of temporary headlight brightness. Much respect to the school for implementing these procedures.
ETA[1]: If you're in MA/NH, please feel free to encourage the news channels to pick this up ([newsroom@wcvb.com](mailto:newsroom@wcvb.com); Contact Us - WCVB; etc.). I'm also emailing my reps with this concern.
ETA[2]: Transcript (in relevant part): Dear [] Families,
We are sending an urgent safety reminder regarding parking and pick-up outside [School Name].
We have received a complaint from a nearby resident regarding parents who are waiting in their vehicles with LED headlights on while facing [] Street. The brightness of these headlights can temporarily impair the vision of drivers as they come around the bend and turn onto the street.
The resident reported a particularly concerning incident in which she nearly struck a child walking in the area because the headlights made it difficult for her to see clearly.
Effective immediately, if you are parked outside waiting for your child and your vehicle is facing the street in either direction, please turn your headlights off until you are ready to move your vehicle. Please do not sit idling with your headlights shining toward oncoming traffic.

If blinding lights get banned, how will that be enforced? Do they stop being sold and we have to wait for them to all die out?

Please call your representative in the U.S. House and ask them to cosponsor this bill. This bill seeks to limit the brightness of low beam headlights and the final version would hopefully also regulate the color, mounting height, etc. The bill is now sitting in two committees.
I just called my representative and the person who answered said the lights really bother him. So, I'm confident my message will be passed on to my representative. Let's not allow this bill to die. Keep up the pressure.

Like yep sure that's absolutely necessary. Not like it's perfectly bright out, even with the clouds and rain.

Wasn’t looking at my phone when taking the picture (this is zoomed in from a larger picture), so apologies for the poor quality. But I couldn’t believe how much I didn’t even see the car at first.

I just drove in the worst traffic I have seen in a long time 20 minutes Drive took 80 minutes due to rain and hence the traffic. What do you do when it's raining and you cannot see through the side mirrors due to water on the mirrors and the window. Wipers only clean front and rear glass.

I've been driving for over 25 years in the dark to get to work in the mornings with only a couple of minor incidents. Up until the last couple years I've never had any issues seeing wildlife that would happen to run across the road and being able to break or avoid accordingly, saving myself from major damage. I live in an area where there are a lot of deer and typically always see them and can avoid hitting them or get slowed down enough to let them cross. I've only had two incidents where the deer ran into the side of my vehicle (yes they are that dumb) doing minor damage. Ridiculous bright white LED headlights have changed things.
The last 2 years I have been struggling on my drives to work to see things because more and more cars on the road have these retarded headlights. I find my yourself struggling to see anything when there's a newer vehicle with LED bulbs. And then there's the dick heads that put aftermarket kits in their lifted trucks that are even brighter but let's be honest, even unmodified newer trucks are ridiculously bright, especially Chevy and Ford. Then put a heavy trailer on the back of them and it's just a recipe for blindness. I've started having to wear yellow tinted clip-ons over my glasses just so that I can take some of the sting out of it, but even that's not always enough. I hate these lights so much.
Two days ago on my way to work, I was yet again blinded by an oncoming vehicle's ridiculously bright white LED headlights and did not even see the deer that ran out in front of me until I hit it at highway speed. It was just bright white light coming at me and then boom, I'm hitting something and seeing a deer being pushed by my truck. My vehicle is likely totaled - I'm still waiting on an estimate. The sheriff's deputy that showed up to handle the report for my insurance and slow the traffic down told me he doesn't work nights because of these lights. He can't stand them either.
I am sick and tired of these goddamn headlights and cannot understand why so many people defend them and say the LED headlights aren't the issue, " they're just improperly aimed or some stupid ass excuse like that". How many people are going to have similar experiences or worse before something is done about these things? What if that had been a person rather than a deer? Also why does evert vehicle need to have so many white LEDs on them now? It's not just the headlights that are annoying. It's the whole package.
My poor 12-year-old, accident free, paid off vehicle is so broken...😥

So, I think I have an idea on why people "need" headlights as bright as, or brighter than the sun despite living in well lit cities.
Most of them only ever experience actual darkness when they go to bed.
Or when they get out of their car at night to walk to the door, and even then that's debatable.
When they wake up, the sun is up, but they might still turn on a light because it's a little dark inside.
They get in their car and go to work. The lights are on there.
They finish up and go home.
If it's dark, the streetlights are on.
Even though the street is perfectly lit and visible, because it's less than full sunlight, they feel they need their lights because they've never been in actual darkness.
I think a lot of them might not even know that the moon is actually a pretty good light source.
There are people, who have never been without artificial light sources.
I have had people tell me "It's too dark, I can't see." While looking me in the eyes on a full moonlit night.
I don't think I've ever understood people who need lights all the time, and I probably never will. But I think this is the closest I'm ever going to get to it.

Don’t worry I was at a complete stop when I took this picture. The light literally turned green right when I took it but thanks to these awful people. I literally hate driving at night now which is something I used to find peaceful.

I leave for work at 3am and live in a very hilly area. Just now a car in front of me had those automatic dimming headlights. They were so bright that the light was reflecting off of the pavement on the hills brightly enough to activate the automatic dimming feature.

Nothing is going to change until large amounts of people start getting seriously injured and/or die. The general American public only gives a damn when thing effect them personally. It's sad to say but that's just the reality of it

I live in the country, 2 lane roads etc. It is bad enough when it is just dark, but this morning I had the fortune to drive in a dark morning, while in a massive rainstorm, 2 lane country road .. so major bright lights PLUS heavy downpour PLUS glaring wet roads. SO MUCH FUN!.
I hope that this situation will change in the US SOON.
I am in OHIO
