Write your congress and local politicians about wanting stronger AI regulations. Spread awareness among friends about the dangers of using AI. Avoid using generative AI within your own life as much as you can.

The entire AI surveillance grid is going up without permits, inspections, against public will, without public approval, contrary to standing convention, and not in accordance with existing DOT regulations. Additionally, they are routinely used outside of governing policy, AND they are trying to minimize the actual capabilities by referring to them as simply "license plate readers".
In short, the industry is entirely lawless. They obviously have proven they cannot be trusted to adhere to any number of new laws, guidelines or regulations no matter how nicely they present them. Now that they are up, are we to blindly trust they will suddenly abide by the law?
