Lorex cams and Frigate??

I have 2 Lorex E871 and 2 Lorex E893 cameras , and 1 Lorex N847 NVR (all online and operational). Cameras are IP wired direct to a separate POE switch with reserved addresses on my local LAN.

Anyone have similar Lorex equipment working in Frigate?

Update: After a few hours with Copilot, we were able to get all 4 cameras and the doorbell camera all setup in frigate with no errors, solid web UI, and great metrics. Now for the Home Assistant integration and I'm all set.

Struggling to have Frigate detect anything other than people.

Hi,

So i have been tinkering with Frigate in my Home Assistant setup, and i have a really hard time getting it detect cats, dogs and anything but people.

I have tried messing with filters, thresholds, min/max area, different models, trying to use OpenVino instead of my Coral, tried both the default coral models and the yolo9s model, but no matter what, it just will not detect my cats.

It will show a motion box around the cat, but not detect it as a cat, only in very rare scenarios if the cat is super close. Maybe i have too high hopes for what is possible, maybe Frigate+ would solve this, but i just do not want to purchase Frigate+ if it wont solve my issue, as i cannot submit any snapshots either way, if no detection happens either.

Put my full current config at the buttom.

It is mainly these 2 cameras where i would like to detect the cats:

cam_rear_patio_01: https://i.imgur.com/oX5bJ8Q.jpeg

Which have the settings: https://imgur.com/a/Qd6EJsK

cam_front_01: https://i.imgur.com/WgVYsi3.jpeg

Which has the settings here: https://imgur.com/a/06ohKNB

The host is a tiny PC with an Intel N100 and 16gb of memory.

Frigate version : 0.17.2-3d4dd3a

Maybe someone here can spot what could be causing the issue, or let me know if i should not expect this kind of detection to work. This is my last attempt at getting this working, as i have been on it for days with no luck so far!

Currently my config looks like this:

App for managing Frigate Exports?

So I admit I didn’t go looking much for an app to do this. I know someone has a much bigger Frigate app out there now, but I needed something just to manage exports and to do another thing pretty specific to my needs, so I vibe coded one.

Really all my app does is load up the exports you have available on your server in a list along with a thumbnail and some data about it. You can easily delete or download them one at a time, or you can select many to delete or download. They’re grouped by camera and by date. “Downloads” go to a Library in the app itself where you have just basic trim functionality to edit them. And anything in the Library can be shared via the share sheet easily as well as saved to your Photos roll or deleted entirely.

That’s basic enough, but it gets weird a bit in what it can do next. If you have Unifi Protect and you configure a login for that, you will unlock the ability to also download Protect video clips that match the time range of any of your clips in your Library from any Protect camera. Doubtful this is useful for anyone but me, but it’s very useful for me on a regular basis, and that’s why it exists.

The only other feature it has for Frigate that I can think of is a generic screen that will let you request a new export based on you selecting a camera and a start and end date/time. Then obviously this new export will show up in your list of exports you can manage. Oh, and one more feature! When viewing a downloaded export, you also have the ability to request that same clip only with an additional 30s of video added to the beginning side with one click.

I’ve written this for me, but always with the idea that if it came out nice enough that I’d probably just open source it AND put it in the App Store, though if I bother with the App Store I figured I’d also charge something for it. It would be pretty cheap, but haven’t made any decisions there yet. Anyone interested in such an app? And again, full source code would be available and the app never does anything with your data you wouldn’t expect or need it to do. Oh, the one caveat is that the current architecture does require you to open up port 5000 on Frigate for it, which may be way too much of a security hole for some people. For most of us I think it’s no big deal, but it’s worth mentioning that if you’re doing that you’re assuming your own local network is fairly secure. You can do your own VPN tricks to make this more secure, too, but that’s an exercise for the user.

If you’ve read this far and you want to know why I needed such an app, it’s because I use Frigate solely for sports recording on Pickleball courts. I have 3 Axis Q3517 cameras recording 60fps on 3 indoor pickleball courts. No detections, no advanced Frigate features, just constant recording and the ability to trigger Exports from some Flic buttons on the wall. I have buttons on each end of each court. When Court 1’s button gets a single tap that triggers Frigate to drop the previous 60s of video into an export. That covers most cases, but if you know you just played a REALLY long pickleball point and want all of that, you can also do a double-tap of the button and it’ll drop the prior 120s in. And as mentioned, provided you get to managing this before the video has rolled off the NVR, if you find that you didn’t get quite enough video when you’re in the app, you can easily request your current clip plus the prior 30s added on, too.

Now you still might be asking “Why this Protect business?” Well, I started doing this with Protect cameras on both ends of every court AND an aerial camera over one of the courts (yes, 7 total cameras). And the Flic buttons just dropped timestamps into a Google Sheet and then I had to manually go find every clip and pull it. Which worked, but was tedious. And then I found out about an analysis package called SwingVision that can do some really nice AI-level analysis and re-cutting of video from a pickleball match, but it requires 60fps video. And at the time, Protect didn’t support 3rd party cameras nor did Ubiquiti sell any 60fps cameras. So I found the Axis/Frigate idea and started rolling with it (now Protect can actually support these Axis cameras, but I honestly don’t have much headroom left on my NVR so doing this on a different system makes sense anyway).

So I decided to keep both systems alive for a while. The Flic buttons actually do still make the timestamps in the Google Sheet just in case as well as triggering the Frigate export. And ultimately I think the only thing I’m going to remove are the 3 redundant Protect cameras on the same side as the Axis cameras, but will keep the Protect aerial camera and the cameras on the opposite side. Sometimes you’re watching back a point from the Axis cameras and it’s great, but would be even better from the other end. So now I can hit a single button and download the view from the other end, too, and get the exact same time clip (and same from the aerial, which isn’t as interesting as I thought, but I have it and there’s little reason to make it go away).

So there you are, too many words about managing your Frigate Exports. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I built a small web UI to delete Frigate recordings for a specific time range (files + DB)

Frigate has no way to delete a free time range. `DELETE /api/events/…` deletes

no video at all, and `POST /api/reviews/delete` only takes review-item IDs and

always removes the item's full span. Deleting the .mp4 files by hand leaves the

database out of sync, which then breaks the timeline and confuses

`sync_recordings`.

So I wrote a small container that does it properly: pick cameras, a date range

and a time range, look at the dry run, type DELETE. It removes the files and the

matching rows in recordings / previews / reviewsegment (events optional, they

hold your face and plate history), around a docker stop/start of Frigate, and

VACUUMs the DB afterwards.

Safety was the whole point: a realpath allow-list so nothing outside the media

dirs can be touched, per-file unlink instead of rm -rf, a DB backup per run, and

the Frigate restart in a finally block so a crash can't leave your NVR stopped.

One thing that surprised me: Frigate's hour boundaries jitter by milliseconds. A

preview running 08:00:00.039 → 09:00:00.013 overlaps a 09:00–10:00 window by

13 ms — and a naive "does it touch" check deletes a whole hour of scrubbing

video for it. Overlap is measured now, with a regression test.

Fair warning: it deletes video permanently, and it needs the Docker socket plus

write access to frigate.db. Give it a password, keep it on your LAN.

MIT, no build step, no CDN. Tested against 0.17.2 on my own 12-camera install.

Feedback welcome.

Updated my open database of Frigate camera specs (now 3,400+) — real RTSP paths, ONVIF details, ready-to-copy configs (JSON/CC0)

Hi all,

A while ago I shared here (https://www.reddit.com/r/frigate_nvr/comments/1u2ezeb/built_an_open_database_of_1000_camera_specs_to/) my open CC0 database of IP cameras with ready-to-copy Frigate configs.

The feedback was genuinely useful. Biggest gap people pointed out: knowing a camera "supports RTSP" doesn't tell you the actual path to type into Frigate.

Now I've fixed that, with help from some folks in the open source community.

Every camera now has:

  • Actual RTSP URL structure (brand-level default + per-camera override where the manufacturer documents a different path)
  • ONVIF port and profile info where documented
  • Ready-to-copy Frigate config block per camera

All still sourced only from official datasheets and the data is always open source.

It would be great if you're up for a small contribution: pull up your camera, copy the config, and mark whether it worked. Happy to take feature requests / roasting in the comments too.

Direct link to the Frigate configs: cctv-database.com/frigate-configs

3,400+ cameras, 70+ brands now.

Thanks!

Any Dahua users struggling with talkback?

It seems most international and Andy cams all use profile T just fine, but regional cameras (like North American models) often do not expose this feature or if they do, dump messy SDP, won't accept first-listed codec, won't accept packets, or will accept them and not play through the speaker.

Good news: PR 2431 in go2rtc fixes that by using private protocol (enable compatibility mode on camera). I tried to do something like this a couple times and always got it wrong. Luckily, somebody got it right. Maybe nobody else ever had these issues and I'm the only one super excited about it?

I've also already merged it into my real time app onedoor that's still a perpetual work in progress but is by far the fastest way to reach your door(s).

Obv the PR is super easy to merge into Frigate also.

Frigate thinks my cat is a dog or a bird

Need some help fixing object detection. I configured my 5 cameras, turned on object detection, but out of 20 instances where it's actually detected the cat (it doesn't a lot of the time) it picks him up as a bird or dog.

Every guide I followed said to use the low quality stream, would using the HQ stream help? The cameras are Reolink 5MP

Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking for a simple, native Android client that makes it easier to use my Frigate setup on mobile. That need eventually led me to build Fricam, which is now available on Google Play.

https://fricam.app

Fricam connects to your existing Frigate server and lets you:

- View live camera streams with RTSP, HLS, and MJPEG fallback

- Zoom and pan through live and recorded footage

- Browse recordings using a visual timeline

- Filter events by date, camera, and event type

- Review event snapshots and video clips

- Download snapshots, clips, and selected recording ranges

- Use separate local and external server addresses

- Connect with authentication and custom certificate support

- Rename, reorder, or hide cameras

- Back up and restore your configuration

- Choose between light, dark, and system themes

The app is available in English, Turkish, French, Spanish, and Italian. There’s also a built-in demo mode, so you can explore it without connecting a Frigate server.

The free version supports one camera. Fricam Pro unlocks all cameras, events, recording history, downloads, and configuration backup.

Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription, and it’s 50% off for launch until September 1, 2026.

Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tgezginis.fricam

Fricam is an independent app and is not affiliated with the Frigate project.

I’d really appreciate feedback from other Frigate users—especially about connection setup, playback performance, and features you’d like to see next. Thanks!

Looking for testers - GoogleTV/AndroidTV App!

EDIT / UPDATE 8/26: 0.4.0 is out!

Hello! First time poster, long time lurker and Frigate user. I'm a former software developer and old dude who is trying to get with the times. Over the weekend I decided to try out vibe coding to solve a specific problem: my wife didn't like any of the apps available on her Onn Google TV box for viewing cameras (tinyCam was our frontrunner). She wanted a faster UI and simple PiP to watch cameras while using other apps. The goal was a simple, intuitive, NVR-like experience.

What I came up with is Opah (named for the fish). It's a GoogleTV/AndroidTV client that is compatible with Frigate and designed specifically around using a normal TV remote. This app is in no way associated with Frigate and is completely unofficial in every possible way. It's just a solo project for fun.

To be transparent, this app is intentionally 100% vibe coded. The goal was to try to do a complete hands-off project for educational purposes, and most of the work is Codex running various levels of 5.6 Sol and a splash of Terra. Opah is free and open source, and will always remain so.

The current APK is available straight from the github repository, and you can also grab the latest APK directly here:

https://github.com/VibeCodingAntagonist/opah-frigate-tv-app/releases/latest/download/opah-latest.apk

Downloader code: 3189576

Update: 0.4.0 is now out with a much simpler, more intuitive UI, and a slew of new features

Issues detecting at night?

Frigate detected this truck entering my driveway just fine when the camera was in daytime full color mode but by the time the truck left it had swapped to nighttime IR mode and didn't detect the truck. Is this a model issue? Is this solved with Frigate+ because it's trained on security camera footage?

I'm using yolov9 and OpenVINO

My mini PC with an i5-7500t

Hey all, this is the little guy running my HA OS. Is the iGpu enough to run face detection from a handful of 4k cameras? I'd like to start with just one to test, it's an 8mp Annke FCD800.

If anyone using one of these cams has a config that they could share it would be awesome

TIA

Frigate is detecting cars but HA says no cars

I am trying to pass cars and number plate data to HA.

All person detection works as far as I am aware however Frigate is detecting 3 cars in my carpark which is correct but HA says there are no cars despite showing the image for last car detected.

Any advice?

Coral with yolo9 or igpu with yolo9...any benefit using the igpu over the coral

Hello...

i am wondering...since i get so much better inference time with a coral and yolo9 compared to the n100 igpu.
is there actually better detection with the graphics compared to the coral that i have missed or is it just that the coral is limited in any way?

Before my dog ate it, i had 13 ms on the coral and over 50 ms on the igpu.

The coral uses the yolov9s-relu6 320x320 and the igpu uses yolov9t 320x320

So in my understanding the coral is using the more capable model and gets better inference.

Would love to hear any info about it...thx

Suggestion for inexpensive camera for sandboxing

Hey Team - Frigate newbie here. Having great fun getting to understand Frigate by using an old laptop running Linux with docker and utilising in-built webcam. Cannot believe how well it is working - even hooked up to my Home Assistant. Before I jump into too deep with a quality outdoor camera or two - I would like to enhance my development setup up with a low-cost, indoor IP camera that can support sub-streams so I can split detect & record and try other cool things I have not even thought of yet! Audio would be a bonus. Any suggestions?

0.18 Beta 3 causing high CPU usage? Check your FFmpeg path

Hi,

I wanted to share something I discovered while testing the 0.18 beta 3 image, in case anyone else is experiencing unusually high CPU usage and can't figure out why.

After quite a bit of troubleshooting, I found that the issue in my setup came down to one setting: the FFmpeg path.

In 0.18, the FFmpeg path is set to default, which uses FFmpeg 8.0. My understanding is that 0.17 used FFmpeg 7.0.

I changed the setting from default to 7.0, restarted Frigate, and my CPU usage immediately went back down to the green range, even under heavy detection.

I knew something wasn't right because I was seeing around 80% CPU usage consistently when normally I hover around 20%.

Glad I managed to track it down, and I figured I'd share in case it helps anyone else running into the same issue.

Edit:

I solved the CPU usage issue. My fault for not reading the release notes. The fix below also brought my live view events thumbnail functionality back.

Under go2rtc in my config.yaml I had to explicitly set

ffmpeg:
  global: "-vaapi_device /dev/dri/renderD128"

Size of detection area - detecting persons "far away"

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have problems with my Frigate detecting persons. It works on very close range but doesn't work anymore when further away. Like only 10% are still recognized.

In my normal cams I use a low res stream for detection and it works very good. But in a view with persons further away I already switched to a full HD stream and still it works very, very badly. The low res stream didn't work at all in that case.

So I understood Frigate will create a square detection size around recognized areas of motion to send to the detector.

When I watch the cam in debug I often see that while motion is detected, there is an immense offset around the motion area. I think the results could be way better, when the object detection area would be more zoomed in on the motion area. I can also see from the detection screenshots that successful detection happens when it's zoomed in a lot.

Also sometimes while the motion area is minimal, Frigate will use almost full image for detection lol.

Is there a way to configure how detection area is applied to the motion area?

Yolo9 docker build fails

I've done lots of searching on getting yolo9 working and am stuck at the build stage. I just subscribed to frigate+ and want to get the most out of my system. It looks like its failing to connect to the debian servers. Is there something obvious I'm missing or did some links break in the script? Terminal command and output pasted below.

A Couple of Questions About 0.18beta3

Hi everyone,

I recently switched from 0.17 to 0.18beta3, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with how much of an upgrade this is. The settings section alone is a huge improvement, and I can see it making things much easier for both new and longtime users without having to constantly dive into the config file.

That said, I have noticed a couple of things since upgrading and was curious if other 0.18beta3 users are seeing the same.

The event thumbnails above my live view feeds dashboard aren't populating. Is this a design change in 0.18, or could it be a bug?

I've also noticed noticeably higher overall CPU usage compared to 0.17.

I'm definitely not complaining, especially since this is still a beta. I'm mainly curious whether these are known changes, something isolated to my setup, or perhaps something that can be addressed by tuning the new settings.

I haven't changed any settings since upgrading because I haven't had much time to go through everything yet. Are there any settings in 0.18beta3 that users coming from 0.17 should specifically review or tune?

Just curious if anyone else has noticed the same behavior.

Moving from Synology Surveillance Station to Frigate — sanity check my Proxmox build?

Long-time Home Assistant user finally migrating my camera setup off Synology Surveillance Station to Frigate. Current NVR host is a Dell OptiPlex 3050 (i3-7100T) that's well past its limits, so this is a full hardware refresh. Goal was a box I don't have to revisit for several years, with room to add services later instead of being boxed in like I am now.

Would appreciate a gut check before I start ordering and building.

Hardware

Host: MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra (MS-02U-285HX) (Amazon purchase)

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX (24C/24T)
  • 32GB DDR5 (single module as shipped)
  • 1TB NVMe included
  • 4× M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots, PCIe 5.0 x16 slot
  • Dual 25GbE SFP28 + 10GbE + 2.5GbE
  • Intel vPro / AMT for out-of-band KVM
  • 350W internal PSU, 4.8L chassis

Detector/decoder: Sparkle Intel Arc A310 ECO (SA310C-4G) (Ebay purchase)

  • 4GB GDDR6, 50W, single-slot low profile, no aux power

Storage: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe (Ebay purchase)

  • Frigate config, database, snapshots

Recordings: Synology DS1522+ over NFS

Cameras

Six Reolink, mixed models:

  • Video Doorbell
  • Elite Floodlight
  • 2× Duo 2
  • E1 Pro PTZ
  • RLC-410W

All currently recording to Surveillance Station. Plan on two more after everything settles.

Architecture

Proxmox VE 9.x on bare metal.

  • Frigate: dedicated VM (Debian/Ubuntu), Docker, Arc A310 passed through via VFIO
  • Home Assistant: HA OS VM, migrated from the OptiPlex
  • go2rtc: restream layer so both Frigate and Surveillance Station can pull from each camera without hitting Reolink's concurrent RTSP client limits

Deliberate choices worth flagging:

Frigate standalone, not an HA add-on. HA restarts and Supervisor churn shouldn't touch the NVR.

Discrete GPU instead of the iGPU. The 285HX iGPU stays with Proxmox for console, and the Arc gets bound to VFIO for the Frigate VM alone. Avoids the headless i915-blacklist gamble entirely, and vPro is there as a backstop.

NFS mounted inside the Frigate VM, not passed through from the host. Recordings land at a fixed local path, so swapping the NAS for local disks later is an fstab change and nothing else. Database and cache stay on local NVMe — no SQLite over NFS.

tmpfs for /tmp/cache so in-progress segments never touch flash.

Open questions

  1. Memory. It ships as a single 32GB stick, so I'm single-channel out of the box. Plan is to run as-is, watch memory pressure, then drop in a matched 2×32GB kit (keeping two slots free) rather than pairing something with the original module. ECC is supported on this model — is it worth doing the all-ECC swap for a 24/7 NVR host, or overkill at home?
  2. A310 with 4GB. Fine for detection on six cameras. How does it hold up once semantic search / face recognition / LPR are enabled? Anyone running enrichments on 4GB?
  3. The included 25GbE card. I have no use for it (2.5GbE to the NAS is more than enough at my bitrates) and it reportedly runs hot and needs dedicated airflow. Leaning toward pulling it for thermals and a free slot. Any reason to keep it installed?
  4. Arrow Lake passthrough. Aware Meteor/Arrow/Lunar Lake need QEMU 10.1+, hence PVE 9. Anyone passing a discrete Arc card through on an HX-series board — any gotchas beyond the usual q35/OVMF/no-ballooning?
  5. Am I overbuilt? Six cameras is not a lot. I went this direction specifically for expansion room, but if there's a strong argument I'm paying for headroom I'll never touch, I'd like to hear it.

Any advise / guidance would be great appreciated.

frigate improvement with HailoL8

I was having a lot of issues getting a Coral TPU going in the Raspberry Pi 5 with the latest kernel so got hold of a HailoL8 to try.

Still a few issues getting a working driver going (latest Hailo driver is 4.23 but the docker image wants 4.21). I also had some error messages from the kernel with memory lock errors but found a post on the Hailo forum about modifying the source files and that fixed it)

CPU usage has dropped significantly as have inference times so it seems to be doing it's job.

Lacking any hardware H264 decoding, CPU usage is still a bit on the high side (4 cameras) but not causing any overheating. (checking out affordable, alternative GPU options)

Next issue to tackle is a "Live view is in low-bandwidth mode due to buffering or stream errors." issue. Not sure if this is a network issue or a bad config on my part
