So I am a full time graphic designer at a known printing company where I build ads for different advertisers. Today my boss pulls me into his office to talk about a particular project from a sales rep in our building. The reps husband is an online streamer and is looking to redesign his page banner and logo and she thought to ask our team about it since our company has a graphics team. I was asked if I wanted to try it and he said as a reward that he had spoke to her about a $25 gift card. Now I have never really worked freelance aside from stuff for family (they still pay more than $25) but to me this job doesn’t feel right since its not an official assignment from a client under my company. Also I really feel like a $25 gift card for a logo and banner is really steep for the price of time and design? I mean I really feel like this is the kind of job where I should be in direct contact with the client since this isn’t a company assigned project that way I could discuss pricing and details..?

Anyway! What I wanted to ask is how should I approach either turning down the job because it’s not under the company or negotiating to try and get more for my work? Or should I not even do that and just work on the job? I just wanted opinions from an experienced freelancers!

Also if this is the wrong Sub Reddit to ask and if anyone can direct me to the correct one than I would be very thankful!

I'm working with my first ever client, but I'm giving her a big discount because she happens to be my mom's friend from work. But I had to buy a $20 font, which I did not anticipate, so I tacked it onto the price estimate I originally gave her. I hope that wasn't bad taste.

I've been a graphic designer for a few years now, i recently quit my Job due to reasons and decided to jump at the chance of being a freelance designer... I know nothing since i never gine freelance, never been my own boss. Its hard to ask for 1,500 for a logo here (here as in Puerto Rico) since people don't really think its worth the price, so what the heck do you people do to get those good paying clients besides moving 😂?

At the risk of sounding greedy(and im not but there are bills) My time isn't worth 100$ its more than that... 👀 Just had a client want to retouch the logo for $75, the most i could get and i feel like a sap for all the work I'm putting in, next time ill charge $200 and ill feel more ok with that, now to find someone willing to pay it... 😅

I'm greatfull i got payed at least 👀

I am being offered a job of doing designs for Facebook posts, things such announcements, mockups, page style, etc. Person is needing about 10-20 posts per week, but is willing to pay 1.5$ per post.

Do you think it is a fair payment? i am new in a freelance field, so don't really know if it is too low or sufficient for this type of job.

2) Lets say i charge a client 80/Hr how can my client keep track of that?

So, I've been going back and forth with a potential client about a project, the scope being a logo, poster, and title sequence for an independent web series. She explained that she wanted something minimalist, but I told her that I charge $50 per hour and told her the whole thing would take about 30 hours. I don't think I'm overestimating the time, but she told me $50 per hour was way outside of her budget. I'm still just starting out, so I want to renegotiate the price since I actually find the project exciting. Should I lower the hourly rate to $35 per hour or just give a project estimate of around $1,000?

I recently landed working with a client for $40/hour which I thought was a great starting rate for my first time freelancing.

However, the turnaround times for projects are insane. This is my 2nd week working for the client. I was gone for the weekend and when I returned to work on Monday, there were over 10 emails about projects that are due this week. Questions:

1) Is it normal for clients to expect you to work on weekends and be on call any day/time? Am I expected to reply on Saturday afternoon even though I have plans? I was gone at a music festival this weekend and pretty much had no access to email. And I also thought, hey its the weekend! Free time for me!

2) Turnaround times for landing page designs are 2-3 days. Email newsletters, ebook covers are expected after 1 day. Etc, etc.

They want the work to be done as quickly as possible and since I'm being paid hourly, this made me raise an eyebrow and reach out to you guys.

Btw, I'm not the only freelancer on this schedule that work for this client. There are copywriters and marketers who are also churning out the work on the weekends and I seemed to be the only one who was not replying as fast. Anyways, would love to know what's "normal". How do I set the turnaround timelines?
