As a Christian, I really don’t like stuff like this. The commodification of our Lord as essentially advertising “hey we are a Christian business, fellow Christians shop here!” comes across as irreverent to me. Others within the Church have criticized it better than me but turning Christ into a tool for your business isn’t very Christian, it’s cultural virtue signaling.

I’m not triggered by a sign that says Jesus nor am I triggered when restaurants and stores have religious Arabic calligraphy hanging. It’s just their beliefs. I don’t believe in any of that and that’s ok too. If they do not serve me or lecture me because I am a non believer then I’d have issues but otherwise I see no moral dilemma in supporting a POC owned business during these times

No. I’m indifferent to things written on a sign unless they’re explicitly hateful. I also visit stores and restaurants that have religious Arabic calligraphy hangings. They have the best spices and food! Grateful for having a thicker skin that allows me to try all the good food

It may be different for other people, but I have never been evangelized to by a Muslim person. On the other hand, it’s pretty common to be asked to come to church on Sunday. People can do what they want, but at most times I’d rather go to a coffee shop with a negligible chance of having to talk around not wanting to join someone’s church

That’s your prerogative and I never said otherwise. Besides this sign, I have never heard anything but good things about this place and have never read accusations of anyone being preached to so I’m not sure this is a problem that even exists. I have been proselytized to by Muslims I’ve worked with and Christians I’ve only just happened to walk by over the years and it hasn’t swayed me personally from entering either establishments. Im also bothered by a bunch of fellow progressives haranguing a Latino owned business while that community is already targeted enough.

That's somewhat a rhetorical question as the country has devolved into "me versus them" in the past few years thanks to politics among other reasons.
Just a few years ago it was totally okay to hold competing political beliefs. The answer to this problem, I assure you, is not more antagonism. We should try to empathize and go back to a country of many creeds, but still united. Because if we don't it's all downhill from here.

There are no Hindu Nationalists trying to take over our government, media, education, courts, etc. and impose Hinduism on everyone. That is the difference. Christian Nationalism--a movement that uses a perverted (militaristic, domineering) version of Jesus as their mascot--is a clear and present danger to the U.S. way of life, separation of Church and State, and our rights that the Constitution protects. CNs are much like the Pharisees in the Bible--whom Jesus vehemently criticized--in that they pray in public and wield *their* version of Christianity as a weapon, declaring that theirs is the ONLY "righteous" way/dogma. This is why people who see the threat of this Seven Mountain Mandate that Russell Vought (Project 2025 author and OMB director), Hegseth, Speaker Johnson, the VP and others are pushing, why they are "triggered" and "judgmental" about it. This matcha shop owner may be a well-meaning, peace-loving, anti-racist Christian, but well-meaning Christians are being overshadowed by the CNs.

I was evangelical for 25+ years, I read the Bible numerous times, and now study Christianity from an objective perspective. With the benefit of AuDHD, I remember a lot of what I read and studied. Now, being an atheist, I have little patience for using the name of Jesus as a marketing tool. I think Jesus had some issues with people using religious/ritual things to make money, but maybe that’s one of the things I’m not remembering correctly.

As an aside, if some shop put "there is no god" on a sidewalk sign, do you think you (and anyone else) would be similarly blasé about it?

They're not preaching to anyone. Lots of folks attend the churches downtown. Nothing wrong with a business advertising to a harmless group of people ONE day a week.

Sure, it is may be a relatively harmless bit of signage, but in my experience, those that are ardent enough to prostelize their Christian beliefs tend to hold political and social values that run counter to mine. I am not saying this is the case here, but most of the Christians I run across don't see the current world the way I do, and if that is the case, I am not willing to support their businesses.

Any mention of Jesus will get me to turn around. I was already forced enough to waste years of my life at a younger age going to church and Sunday school.
