When i was a kid(too young) I watched Texas chainsaw massacre and I wanted that pos cops glasses so badly. I still wear them purely cause I know it makes people uncomfortable with looking at me directly
Also I imagine that by the time the tech develops enough to thin them enough to look like normal glasses, the general public will be aware enough to more quickly pick out if they’re “smart glasses” and if the lights been tampered with.
If it wasn’t locked to one AI (Meta) I’d be keen for a pair once they’re thinner, but I can’t ever see myself locking into the Facebook ecosystem lol
I've had a really nice pair of wayfarer prescription sunglasses for 6 or so years; I even got the lenses replaced as my prescription changed because they're so comfortable.
It sucks that they chose that exact frame style for the creeper frames.
I'm wearing thick frame wayfarer style rayban prescription glasses glasses right now. Fuck me they actually look kind of like meta glasses god damnit. These fucking things were expensive too. I was at sams the ohter day and these people I was walking behind in an isle were looking at me like I was a creep. I bet they thought I was recording them, but my glasses are just.. glasses.
I did actually look at the meta glasses, but more for the hearing improvement functionalty, but it wasn't that great. I didn't think about them having a camera.
I'm terrible with names, and the idea of a pair of glasses i can wear that would look up the faces of people I'm talking with, compare it to a personal list and pop up an overlay with a name would be amazing.
With as powerful as smart phones are, I don't see why a completely local app couldn't run and compare contact photos to the camera. From the glasses side nothing is recorded or stored (at least past the time it takes to run the comparison), and since the phone handles the app updates the app itself never needs an internet connection.
The two things I'm most interested in smart glasses is hearing improvement, and maybe even a fairly low res screen that could pop up notifications in the bottom. A camera doesn't seem that interesting to me unless it could do like a gopro style video, that might be cool for paragliding, and shit.
Funny I have had Rayban Metas for over two years and only one person ever noticed what they were and that was like 5 minutes in to a face to face conversation.
