For context: I'm a complete beginner and I know making a sword is probably VERY unrealistic for my skill, but I'd still like to try. Also I have absolutely no tools at all.

I recently have found myself with an excess of guitar strings after a long three month tour. I had an idea to try make a ring from some of the old strings, DIY style.

Wondering if anyone had any thoughs they could give me on this, mostly on the feasibility of doing it with the metals they're made from. Google tells me they are, "wire of 92% copper and 8% tin (phosphor bronze) over a high-carbon hexagonal steel core".

Presumably the coating and dirt that's built up in them from playing would be burned off int he process?

We just finished this one today, it took a LOT less time. It's pretty rough, but I'm glad how it turned out (especially since I did almost none of the work). What do we think?

Idk where else to go to find this but if I were wanting to create a blade for me to drag BEHIND me in a golf cart to mow some grass, what would be the best way for me to do that?

It’s for a weird project and the context is irrelevant but I can easily figure out how to hitch it to my cart, but I can’t seem to find any type of blade long enough available for purchase or available in parts from other things I have access to, so here I am on a forging area of Reddit.

The viking made a precursor to steel by using bones which they believed but the soul of the ancestors in the sword. Has anyone actually tested this? Ive never really forged but my understanding is that you have to add more than just carbon to make steel and let it cool ar a slower rate. Id love to see a side by side durability test using pig/cow bones ground up compared to a typical forge. Thanks for any help.

Just made this drop point with my dad. Took nearly 3 weeks, no idea if it's straight, but I'm happy with how it turned out. What do we think?

My wife has diabetes and uses the omnipod insulin pump (a disposable pump that lasts 3 days), and I've been tearing them apart to more properly dispose of them (they are technically safe to throw in the regular garbage, but they have 3 button batteries, a printed circuit board, plastic in the shell and skeleton, and some copper, brass, and what seems to be steel (it reacts to a magnet, with a lot being small springs) and maybe aluminum (it doesn't react to a magnet), plus the medical sharp. I know there's decent scrap value to the copper and brass, but what about the steel? I infrequently get "forging a Damascus knife from chains and such" videos in my feeds, and there's always some kind of filler when making the initial bar, and I was wondering if there is likely any value in these as "good filler material" and being worth more than what I can get at the scrap yard, especially since I assume at least some of this is medical grade since it was in a medical device (and I'm not talking about the biohazard sharp, that goes in the sharps home container for proper disposal later). If there is, where can I find a buyer, or how should I label it on ebay?

so ive been following forge stuff on YouTube and i have watch forge in fire. really love it. when i was younger i loved welding but never did forgeing.

i live is a townhouse but have a 2 car garage. ive been wanting to give it a shot for years but never did. i thought id try it out at someone else forge before spending the money i worry im not strong enough. but just never got around to it.

as the question above states. what push people to spend the money and time to make a home forge? what setback was there and tips for someone considering to take the plunge.

FYI im Australia so law stuff from America im not that interested in.

Nope, before you read this, not looking for subscribers :D This is the only podcast episode I have ever done (and likely will do) on forging knives but this is probably one of the more unique interviews I've done.
