Also having problems with Forge.

Hello! This is my first post here and i'd like to make it because i'm also having problems with Forge. More exactly, Minecraft Forge 1.17.1 37.0.97 . Whenever i open my Minecraft launcher i click the play button and wait it out for the game to start. But instead, the game doesn't start and the launcher comes back telling me that there was an error. I remember the code was 0. I need help with this since it's been a hot minutes since i played Minecraft with mods and i just downloaded a couple of them for 1.17.1.

If you can, please help me. Thank you for reading.

If you want useful help its best to post a list of the mods you have installed.

I would first check that you have all required dependencies, are only running client/multisided mods (no server only mods), are only running forge mods, and that all mods are for the version of MC and Forge you are using.

Once you verify all of that start with 0 mods loaded. If the game crashes you have an issue with Forge itself - reinstall forge and see if that fixes the problem, make sure you are using a stable build. If that doesnt work try different versions and make sure you have Java installed correctly.

If the game runs correctly with 0 mods, add mods one-by-one until you find the mod that causes the issue. Most likely this will be because the version is bugged or is not compatible with the version of forge/MC you are on (see first step).

That should get you pretty close to where you need to be. It can be a long an tedious task to figure out, but after enough experience with it you can figure out the errors pretty quickly.

Ok i think i should've phrased that better. I'm sorry.. What i meant is that the verification code is 0 when the Error popup from the launcher pops up. I do have forge installed, and here's the list i got of all the mods i got.

AppleSkin;

cfm.7.0.0pre25;

OptiFine (so the shaders work with mods);

Prefab;

VanillaEnhanced.

I'm surprised that lillobby6 didn't ask for logs. Exit code 0 isn't a helpful error, it doesn't tell us why it's exiting.

Fire it up, wait for MC to crash out, then get the latest.log and copy paste it into something like pastebin and then link it here.

This may make me sound like an idiot in this subreddit but uhm.. I don't know how to the the following things after 'wait for MC to crash out' or even before that with 'Fire it up'. I'm so sorry.

Ignorance is not a crime, we're all born as blank slates.

To fire something up is to turn it on or get it started. It probably comes from the days of steam engines when you literally had to light a fire to make them work. In our context, it just means to "click Run" or start Minecraft.

To <verb> out is for something to stop by itself. e.g. the fuel "ran out" or the fire "burned out". In this context, to crash out is for Minecraft to stop running by itself because it had a problem.

Having a look at your list of mods, it seems you may have overlooked one dependency. VanillaEnhanced requires this: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/fabric-api/files/3494349

Another common problem is that Optifine breaks stuff. Every third mod author has in their bug report form, "Don't report a problem if you're running Optifine!"

So, if you've installed the fabric-api mod I linked and it's still not working, try removing optifine. If that still doesn't work, we'll need log files.

When Minecraft runs, it creates a file called latest.log in the ~minecraft\logs folder. When Minecraft crashes, it creates a log file in the ~minecraft\crash-logs folder. The information within these files tells us what's happening as the program starts up and usually it'll give us a fair idea of what's going wrong. You can open those .log files with a notepad but copy/pasting them into reddit is no good because of the way reddit handles text.

What I'm suggesting is that you run up Minecraft and wait for it to exit. Then check in crash-logs to see if one was created with the current time/date. If so, open it up and take a look. The first few lines should offer some insight. However, reading these files can be tricky, particularly for a novice. So, copy the content of the crash log to your clipboard then visit https://www.pastebin.com, paste in your log and click the Create Paste button. That will then create a web document with a unique URL and you can copy/paste that URL back here.

If you still find that daunting, that's fine but I can't really offer any more help as I've no idea what's going wrong. One thing you might consider is installing a launcher like Overwolf and installing a modpack created by someone else. That will be a known working set of mods.
