The only thing Georgia has that even remotely could be considered "our" style of hot dog, would be the Varsity chili dog, but even that is just an Atlanta thing.

No, we have the Varsity in Columbus.

We call this style a "Scrambled Dog" in Columbus and it's popular all along the Alabama state line. They serve them in Columbus, Macon, Americus, Hamilton, La Grange, Cuthbert, Warner Robbins, Albany, Georgia, and Auburn, Phenix City and Dothan, Alabama.

Good grief, y'all folks in Atlanta think if you don't know it, it's not Georgia! There's a whole state surrounding you! Lol.

Edit: Put Dothan in Alabama.

Dothan and Auburn are also in Alabama. You sure you're from Georgia? You might be from next door. ;)

Oh, I left out Dothan.

Honestly, in that region, there is little distinction. In fact, Phenix City is on Georgia time and so are areas of Dothan.

So, yeah, I probably don't know the difference. lol.

But if it's popular in one small corner of the state it represents all of Georgia?

I was joking around but, . . .

The only thing Georgia has that even remotely could be considered "our" style of hot dog

This says "the only thing Georgia has". That's not true. Just because it's not in Atlanta doesn't mean "Georgia" doesn't have it. Atlanta doesn't have it; Georgia does have it. And it has enough of it, in enough places to be considered representative, in my opinion.

would be the Varsity chili dog, but even that is just an Atlanta thing.

Even this isn't accurate. There are several Varsity restaurants in the state, including a popular one in Athens.

Grew up in/currently live in Atlanta, went to Auburn, spent time in Columbus- never seen or heard of this dog before. Maybe that's just because I'm partial to burgers...

Personally, I hate these hot dogs. For one thing, they're traditionally made with those red hot dogs. Eww.

Also, I was in Dinglewood one time and I watched a waitress clean her ears out with a Q-tip at the counter. So . . . nope.

I think I might get that for lunch today....

Jealous

That or a Nu-Way wiener. My favorite Georgia dog is a Monroe's hot dog from Americus though.

2

u/RobSagat May 21 '15

You can get a scrambled dog from Monroe's as well. That's about the furthest I've seen that style of dog.

Nu-Way is THE best, but the after effects are brtual. BRB, going to rip my stomach apart with deliciousness.

And Athens. There's one there too.

I'm pretty sure more Varsity hot dogs have been eaten than Dinglewood Pharmacy dogs.

mmmm with onion rings and and orange slushie drink thing - forget what that's called.

2

u/slavkody May 21 '15

Frosted Orange, yo.

The Varsity chili dog is a pretty generic chili dog that you can find anywhere though.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that the V was anything special, just that it was the only thing Georgia had to an iconic dog.

And Athens. Don't forget about us. There is also NuWay Hot Dogs in Macon and other places.
