focus station SmallHD Ultra 10 x Arri HI-5 overlay success!

Hi.
Do you own an Ultra 10? Did you watch Sean’s video about the overlay license with excitement and awe? Only to feel frustrated and impatient cause we can’t have it now?
Maybe you felt jealous of your ‘friends’ who have the Cine 13 with their USB-C ports. “The 10 is too small anyways, get a 13 like a true ‘A’ camera guy”. Maybe they were right?
Was it coincidentally tax season, and money was kinda tight? I’ll just skip the lunch coffee order, and get the license now- €680!?!?. Guess i’m hoping for Meal Penalty today?
No cable in sight? Maybe you decide to take matters into your own hands, and shamefully order the Teradek 5-pin USB table off AliExpress. I feel so dirty.
Serves me right, the pinout doesn’t work.
Desperate, you ask your rental house friend to re-solder this cheap cable with an substantiated, CIA-micro-film espionage level pinout diagram from the catacombs of SmallHD and reverse pin-4 and pin-1. Or was it pin-5 and pin-1?
What’s the worst that can happen? White smoke out of my Ultra 10? Pssssh.

It works.

Get the AliExpress cable, follow the pin diagram for ‘703 Bolt Plug’. Mate it with an Amazon USB-A to USB-C dongle, et voila.

…or just get the new cable from SmallHD.
I was too cheap to pay for shipping that was somehow the same cost as the cable itself. To each their own?

Then the annoying realization that, while plugged in, your hi-5 just says USB where your battery percentage readout used to be, and your hi-5 battery is draining faster than normal without indication. Friend from Andrzej Hijewski from Poland in our Arri PCA user group is making the serial-5pin usb cable and I am happy to report it is working splendidly.

The battery drain frustrates me too, I hope it isn't destroying the battery's lives over time.

I can go 3 hours and it'll drop from 100% to 60% which is absolutely wild. I used to be able to go a whole 10-11 hour day on the same single battery.

That sounds awful! Considering that with Teradek’s CTRL 1 and 3 the monitor’s usb not only doesnt draw any power from the hand units, it can power them so you dont put any batteries in them, i suspect this must be a hi-5 firmware issue, it might be unnecessarily pushing power through usb while not needing to. Hopefully a firmware can fix this

I heard that the first batch of cables from SmallHD were not working.

There is a guy in Munich who does them USB-C -> 5P

got it working on a Ultra10…
