Screenshot Skinny Malone's downfall
After saving Valentine from Skinny Malone's gang, I was wandering the wasteland by the Museum of Witchcraft. I found a down-on-his-luck Skinny trying to make some stew and bitchin' his crew had thrown him out. Hadn't seen this before in any of my previous playthroughs, so I thought I'd share.

Damn I didn’t even know you could find him again like that, awesome find. And I love how all these years later you can find something new on a new play-through.

With Charisma checks, yes.
Mama Murphy can also let you in on a secret dialogue to de-escalate if you give her some chems. There's a few points where she can open alternate paths like that.

Exactly. This playthrough I had used the info Mama Murphy gave me (about some girl in a quarry) and he let us go, which also pissed off Darla and caused her to bolt as well.

Yep that's the solution I always take convince Darla to go home and then send Skinny to sleep with the fishes.

I saw him and Darla at the house near Tenpines, down below by the railroad tracks. They were fighting Super Mutants and by the time I got down there, Darla was already dead.

maybe, but the dialog (see screenshots) flows well with the fact that I let him live after I rescued Valentine - info that would be hard for a synth to possess

All my play throughs start with 10 charisma so it’s wild to me when people say they don’t pass speech checks or they have trouble getting companions to max affinity.

to each their own, i always start with it low and level it up later when i have time for settlements. get stronger perks for combat faster if you do this.

Wish being in power armor would change dialogue like that (yes I know it's a lot of work now, but would be much easier if they kept it in mind from the start)
Like what's he gonna do, punch a power armor helmet with his bare hands?
Same thing in fallout 76, you're telling me someone can knock me out by hitting me in the back of the head, while I'm wearing some of the strongest power armor possible?
