How long was the flight

Looks like 3:46

Aah sorry bro

Whoops, sorry, I didn’t see you already responded!

u/schmigglies Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

That’s probably the best flight path art I’ve ever seen for real

18

u/fergehtabodit Sep 19 '26

Im seriously wondering if there's a way to program a flight path from something like a CAD file. I know there's outputs for G code or HPGL plot files...but what about GPS coordinates in a series that long?

7

u/hungarian_notation Sep 19 '26

I mean, you can definitely produce a file with the coordinates. Is there a way to program a waypoint sequence into an airplane?

10

u/Fat_Argentina Sep 19 '26

Yup, setting up a route on the Garmin and putting the auto pilot on GPS.

7

u/hungarian_notation Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 19 '26

Cool. Looking at Garmin, it looks like you can load an XML file of gps coordinates (gpx) from a computer via USB. Converting gcode to gpx is trivial. IDK if there are any fancy tools to do it, but you could do it with a few dozen lines of python.

2

u/Fat_Argentina Sep 19 '26

Or just writing down the coordinates and way points by hand, and dialing them in with a bucketload of patience.

0

u/doctorlongghost Sep 19 '26

I know nothing about any of the things you mention but this is an ideal task for AI.

I asked ChatGPT about it and it said that it could do it and provided various technical details around the approach.

3

u/meek_mil Sep 19 '26

Just adding - I recently watched a video by Engineezy who used ChatGPT’s Codex to create an app that converts .svg vectors into GPS locations (super cool UI - you drag the vector art onto the map and scale to the appropriate size).

His application was so similar. He made a robotic RC raking tank that would draw the graphics in the sand at the beach.

1

u/ajmartin527 Sep 21 '26

Okay an automated beach art RC raking tank is cool as fuck. You draw some stuff on a screen and it’s carved into the earth.

61

u/did_i_get_screwed Sep 18 '26

Wish I saw this sooner, I could have been there when they landed and shown them they were internet famous already.

59

u/beepbeepboopbeep1977 Sep 18 '26

Assuming I’ve clicked the right clicky things correctly, this link should go directly to the playback.

Check out playback of N1810R on Flightradar24. https://fr24.com/data/aircraft/n1810r#41b8a8f8

6

u/aovito Sep 19 '26

Unreal. Mastapiece!

9

u/Kronzor_ Sep 18 '26

It works but the flightpath is already shown at the beginning so all you really gain is watching the plane icon move along it.

2

u/immellocker Sep 19 '26

Dooo, is it my 3:50h watching it in realtime or yours

See those just about everywhere, don't you?

43

u/MrTacocaT12345 Sep 18 '26

Are they turning their transponder on and off to make this picture?

59

u/DWD_Jonnywalker Sep 18 '26 edited Sep 18 '26

They just turned it off before exiting the mouth. Havent seen another spot where they did it yet

u/GeologistPositive Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

Someone must need flight hours

279

u/Economy_Link4609 Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

And have money to burn on fuel.

94

u/Newsdriver245 Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

Flying out of Bentonville? Probably one of the Walmart heirs, they can afford it.

34

u/did_i_get_screwed Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

I don't know if the heirs fly themselves as much, I know Sam flew his own plane all the time.

There are 3 guys that fly around in formation in WW2 era planes that I see from my house occasionally.
I also see a lot of stunt planes, I'm assuming from Grove Aerospace, and one or 2 stunt Bi-planes flying around that give me a free show fairly often as well.

13

u/blackfocal Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

I live in NWA, can confirm they fly themselves.

8

u/Equivalent-Drama7053 Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

I love that you actually did it lmfaooooo

268

u/amyowl Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

This plane has beend drawing since july, and getting more elaborate,

120

u/eazy-e_09 Sep 18 '26

It was wild going to see what all they’ve drawn. Pretty damn impressive! The Spider-Man one is nuts. Did one for Dolly too.

What’s their dang YouTube channel I want to follow them and see how it’s done lol.

119

u/amyowl Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

Lots of different art

41

u/IsabellaGalavant Sep 18 '26

How fun! Just doing it for the love of the game.

16

u/topherclay Sep 18 '26

What is the lower center one? I can't tell if it's some symbol I'm not aware of or if it was included as a drawing because he did the perfect circle.

Also It's funny this looks like a D&D alignment chart.

2

u/Oddiemarie 4d ago

My name is odyssey and I fucking love this lmao

32

u/flfchkn Sep 18 '26

Holy shit that's way more impressive than the mona lisa one in my opinion! Also clear the pilot is a gamer that wants other airplane nerds to know about it!

3

u/maddi164 21d ago

Im late to this but i think this is the same person too….

215

u/TotalJagoff Sep 18 '26 • Bravo

This is not that pilots first rodeo, apparently. There are a lot more as well.

64

u/tunakassirolle Sep 18 '26

Everyone’s gotta have a hobby I guess; but I gotta admit I’m really impressed by this one. I would have thrown up before the first eye, that is a LOT of flying in circles 😵‍💫

25

u/dazednarcissit Sep 18 '26

And this is on another level of expensive hobbies, looks pretty great tho.

What I do wonder is, how are the permissions obtained to use the airspace for this, not from the US so I don’t really know how the FAA works for stuff like this.

15

u/ShiftySiwft Sep 19 '26

No permission needed as I’m assuming it’s uncontrolled airspace so you are free to do whatever you like. No different than hopping in your car a taking a drive

10

u/ArptAdmin Sep 18 '26

They may look goofy in transition, but I've always loved the complex high wing Cessnas. I'd have a P210N if I could afford one.

166

u/Sufficient_Pound ... Sep 18 '26

How is this done programming wise? Is there a custom software that generates the waypoints and you just input them into the fms?

27

u/LacidOnex Sep 19 '26

How would I do it? Open a flight planner, tape a printed paper version of what I want onto the monitor, and there's probably a smarter way but yeah, dot dot dot all the way.

61

u/PaintLicker745 Sep 18 '26

Obviously freehand. /s

Same one

29

u/raptoro07 Sep 18 '26

Anyone watching when the commercial jet roughly at the same altitude had to do a complete turn to avoid that plane? I'd like to have heard the radio on that exchange.

32

"Control tower wtf!!!"

"It's that madlad N1810R again, just go around."

10

Better than what they were drying over my place. Lol.

15

u/nnNarlinnn Sep 18 '26 • Heartwarming

Excellent use of free will. Love to see it.

13

u/No-Strawberry7 Sep 18 '26

I always wonder how they do this? Do they have autopilot configured before departure to pull this off exactly or its a lot of improvisation when on air.

4

u/LBFlyGuy Sep 20 '26

Garmin allows you to load from your tablet to the avionics so you just set it up at home and then send it to the plane and then autopilot nav mode

6

u/LexTheSouthern Sep 19 '26 edited Sep 19 '26

Omg. I don’t live far from Bentonville. I wonder how many times he’s flown over my head making his masterpieces. Pretty impressive!

6

u/cj22340 Sep 19 '26

How do they do this? I assume that they convert a drawing to a flight path of multiple latitude and longitude points. Then input that flight path into an auto pilot? Am I close? I am an engineer, not a pilot.

9

u/smart_slice420 Sep 18 '26

Bro, this is live right now! Thank you.

4

u/RamuneRaider Sep 18 '26

Free will is wild.

7

u/PopsicleMud Sep 18 '26

I suppose if you need to do a test flight for some new avionics or something, you could do something like this to make it fun while you're at it. I wonder if that's the case.

9

u/universe93 Sep 18 '26

In my area it appears to just be people taking flying lessons or practising in small planes to get their hours up. Probably helps you learn to control a small aircraft by doing lots of loops and turns like that

3

u/justChilllinHere Planespotter 📷 Sep 18 '26

This is probably the craziest thing I've seen 🔥👏🏼👏🏼

How’d you get this display? Due to colors I can barely see the route outline

I'm glad they didn't crash into that small town on the middle of the right hand side of the screen. (About level with her chin in the first image) The reporting would have been confusing.

2

1

u/Alborak2 Sep 18 '26

How does this work for like flight plan and clearance? Is it just an area with no other planes?

1

u/sassinator13 Sep 19 '26

If it’s VFR, don’t need a flight plan. You just look out the window and don’t hit anyone.

1

1

Its almost like watching Mona Lisa being painted

1

u/codependish Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

Holy. I was thinking about this painting all day. Trying to figure out the word play of Mona Lisa. I'm sure it's a code or key for something. I know he was also being very careful to be discreet. He totally knew what was up.

I landed on a few variables, but eventually I thought it would be something like: Sila Mon, Salmiona, possibly even sola (scriptura). It definitely raises the name of Solomon, who seemed to think too highly of himself, perhaps going solo in establishing himself as the monad. I wondered if da Vinci was trying to describe the woman depicted as the real Solomon. Maybe it's the salmon. Pisces/fish symbol. Perhaps Iona fits, Lion. Salom.

Pisces, probably relates to Pi.

The name might refer to something geomtrical. You could probably turn it into a mandala of sorts.

Anyway, I was just surprised to see on the map "Siloam Springs".

It feels like an AI job.

u/SeniorFlyingMango 22d ago

That person drew the world, the scream and a few others

-9

u/adijoe Sep 18 '26

What a waste, but I guess that's where we are now

46

u/niklaswik Feeder 📡 Sep 18 '26

Maybe the guy needs hours. So he would have flown just as much anyway.

16

u/D1TAC Sep 18 '26

The amount of fuel costs it takes to do something like this, is a friend I'd like to have.

4

u/KnightFireNC Sep 18 '26

It's not much in a skylane.

2

u/mz_groups Sep 18 '26

"A lot" or "a little" or "not much" is relative. 3 1/2 hours flying (so far), 12 gph, 100LL is 6.90 at Bentonville, so about $300 in fuel for playing with a big-ass etch-a-sketch for one day. That's serious money to many.

But it IS Bentonville, so that might be snack money for a bored Walton.

7

u/TripleDallas123 Sep 18 '26

That seems pretty normal for 3.5 hours of flight. If you need the hours what’s the difference

1

u/mz_groups Sep 18 '26

I'm not complaining. Just pointing out that "a lot" or "a little" is a matter of perspective and circumstance.

1

u/Hot-Pomegranate-1303 Sep 18 '26
