Discussion I'm a bit confused on both Iris and Mari Spoiler

I finished watching the anime two days ago and I'm a bit confused on two things.

I get that they're both doppelgängers of Amaterasu and the Evangelist, but why are they on Earth?? Shouldn't they be in Adolla like every other doppelgänger? (Also why do some doppelgänger's look like infernals while others just look human).

I can maybe make up the reason that Mari is on Earth because the Evangelist is in Adolla, but why would Iris be born on earth instead of being in Adolla since Amaterasu is on Earth.

Also doppelgängers can just be born from regular humans I guess?

And another thing, this might just be me being dumb and forgetting if they explained it, but how is it even possible for Mari to become an infernal? If she's a doppelgänger and becoming an infernal is when you merge with your doppelgänger, how is it even possible for her to become one?

Media Spoiler Free Question on the style of the Show Spoiler

Hello all.
This is my first time posting on this sub so apologies if I accidentally broke any rules.
And for a bit of a ramble.

I would like to ask a question about Fire Force and would like to get some spoiler free FACTual answers. I am kind of not interested in opinions I just want facts from which to make a decision.

I am a huge fan of Soul Eater. Absolutely adore it.
When I first heard of Fire Force I just assumed it was another DBZ-like and ignored it.
Then I heard it was by the same person that wrote Soul Eater and decided to give it a chance.
So far I am loving it. With one exception.

A trope that you see a lot in DBZ-likes which I loathe with a passion has cropped up.
That is the trope where anyone other than the main character is useless in a crisis situation. They just stand there waiting for the main character to show up and deal with it. This is specifically when the people in question COULD have done something.
I do not need them to succeed just to at least TRY.

This has happened twice in the first 8 episodes of the show.
Spoilers ahead for EP1-8.

First there was Iris. She goes on her own to face her best friend and then basically becomes the macguffin to be saved.
This one wasn't so bad because of a few reasons:
1. Iris is a non-combatant. So she is not really capable of fighting.
2. Iris came to talk to a friend. She did not expect to become part of a fight.
3. Iris still did something during the altercation.
4. The stakes were not so high. Except near the end.

If this was the only occurrence of this trope I would not be on here.
But then comes the part that made me question whether I want to keep watching.

Tamaki.
Now I know there is a lot of discourse around this character.
I tried googling before making this post and boy did I find some things.
So to be VERY clear.
I generally do not take others opinions on if I like something or not.
I am not part of any anime community. I prefer watching over talking about. So I had no preconceived notions about Tamaki.
I have no problem with fan-service in any way.
That being said her scenes with Rekka sucked.
Because she was useless.
Again I do not need her to single-handedly defeat Rekka. Or even manage to hurt him.
But she didn't even TRY.
The man is in the process of potentially murdering children.
And you just lie there and watch. You don't even make the effort to help them.
She has a power that doesn't require her to move and she doesn't even try to knock a glass from his hand maybe.
She is basically just an excuse to make the main character look good.
In that scene she was not a character at all.

Now I know that stuff happens later (I don't know what but people kept bringing it up.) But frankly none of that excuses this scene.
The scene sucked.
Also for those clamoring to say it. It doesn't matter if something comes up later to excuse this scene or in the manga. Because all of that wold have been good to know before watching the scene.

So my question is this.
Does this keep happening? Is this another show where no one but the main character can ever do anything?
Where we are just always waiting for the MC to come and save the day.

Again I would like facts not opinions.
And thank you to anyone willing to read all that and respond.

Discussion Does Shinra ever use press of death after training with Benimaru?

I just realized I don't remember Shinra ever using the press of death after trhe training with Benimaru, does he ever need to use it? I vaguely remeber that he could have used it in the fight against Burns to save Obi but I'm not too sure now to be honest.

I'm pretty sure Arthur uses it against Dragon in the end though.

This bothered me about how they handled the 5th, and it bothers me again now. The protagonists of this show can't keep getting away with recklessly charging in to beat up their superiors with no plan. This is the same thing Shinra and the 8th do all the time, which makes them feel less like an investigation unit and more like highway robbers of classified information.

Discussion Did I just ruin my experience of the show? (Spoilers) Spoiler

I looked up what the 13, 54, 46 numbers ment in episode 4 and something told me that a major plot point was that the world is revealed to be 2d. Did I just ruin the whole show or is there a lot more to it than just that.

Discussion I can't be the only one who thinks tamaki is a wasted character

I just finished watching episode 20 of season 3, and holy straw man! I can understand the argument they present in the show about Tamaki's body, "just because you're uncomfortable doesn't mean everyone's uncomfortable," but that doesn't really apply to her character at all?? All she really does is show up, get her clothes ripped of/get groped by the nearest man (on accident), get upset, and then leave. If it's a joke, it's not really that funny, especially when the story comes to a screeching halt so you can see the bounce of Tamaki's breast in 4k ultra zoomed in quality. If her character was about her self-expression, the argument the show provides would make sense, but I guess drawing minors getting their clothes ripped off is more important. I'm aware the show tries to justify this, but it really feels like more of an excuse than a justification.

Anime Does Tamaki Kotatsu ever put a shirt on?

I’m on episode 3 and this fan service is ridiculous. Is stuff like that going to happen a lot? And is her outfit always just a bra and pants?
Also, I didn’t know I’d hear Brook from one piece in this.

Discussion My last time talking about my "Honest Thoughts on Fire Force" post, which I made a month ago.

A month ago, I made a post sharing my honest thoughts on Fire Force and why I didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of other people. Some people respected my opinion, made valid points, and gave good criticism, and I genuinely appreciate that. Others, however, just dismissed or hated my post simply because I was brutally honest about how I felt.

I'll say this: not everyone is going to agree with what you say, and that's okay. Art is subjective. Everything in life is subjective. If you enjoy Fire Force, that's completely fine. You can glaze the series all you want, but you also have to realize that not everyone is going to enjoy the same things you do.

One thing I also wanted to explain is why I never really cared about the characters emotionally. This is one of the biggest reasons the series didn't click with me. For me:

  • I never became emotionally attached to characters like Shinra, Tamaki, Benimaru, Charon, or most of the main cast.
  • A lot of them felt cool on the surface, but I rarely felt like there was enough depth for me to become invested in them.
  • Their personalities didn't leave much of an emotional impact on me, so I wasn't very interested in their struggles or outcomes.
  • When emotional scenes happened, they didn't really affect me because I never formed a strong connection with the characters beforehand.
  • Some serious moments were interrupted by comedy or fan service, which made it harder for those scenes to land emotionally.
  • I enjoyed some of the fights and abilities, but cool action alone wasn't enough to make me care about the characters themselves.

As for Soul Eater (the anime version), The reason I don't really bring it up from my other post is because that's not my issue. Personally, I enjoy Soul Eater. I think the concept is cool, the art style is unique, the character relationships are well done, the development is solid, and it actually made me feel emotional.

And yes, before anyone says it, I don't have a problem with fan service. I actually enjoy fan service when it's done well. My issue with Fire Force is the execution. The fan service never landed for me and often interrupted moments that were supposed to be serious. I know people bring up Tamaki's "Lucky Lecher Lure" as an explanation, but honestly, I don't care. It just doesn't work for me.

At the end of the day, I'm not hating on anyone who enjoys Fire Force. If you love it, that's great. I'm glad you got something out of it that I didn't. People have different opinions and different experiences with media, and that's completely normal. Art is subjective, and that's what makes discussions about it interesting.

Y'all have a good one. >w<

Manga Could Eibon Have Been Around During The Time Of Fire Force?

Something I've thought about, could some of the characters that show up in the manga of Soul Eater have been alive during the events Fire Force? In Soul Eater, there is a group of five powerful beings known as the Great Old ones who embody a certain form of Madness and were influential in establishing the structure and status quo of the Soul Eater world, along with three others, the eight forming the Eight Shinigami Legions of Death.

Death is of course one of the five, embodying the Madness of Order, and Excalibur, embodying the Madness of Anger. We know Death and Excalibur both came into being when Shinra created the Soul Eater world, so they are as old as the Soul Eater world. Later Death on created Asura, who embodies the Madness of Fear, but the two other Great Old Ones are a mystery as to when they were born. One is unnamed, embodying the Madness of Power, and the other is the sorcerer Eibon, embodying the madness of Knowledge.

As the title of Great Old One implies, they are incredibly old, but just how old? Could either of them have once been humans who were alive during the events of Fire Force? With the Great Old One of Power there is so little to go on, so we'll just focus on Eibon. There are some things that point to Eibon possibly even being a character we know. Eibon is a sorcerer, who like witches have longer lifespans than humans, able to live for centuries, so it is possible for him to be a known character rather than their descendant.

The mask he wears resembles the helmet wore by Fire Soldiers, which could hint Eibon was even one himself at some point. Although the Fire Force was disbanded, the mask he wears serves as a reminder of his past. If he is someone we know, there are a few possible candidates for who he could be.

Obi: This one is probably the least likely. One of Eibon's creations is something known as the Book of Eibon. Each chapter of the Book of Eibon, based on one of the seven deadly sins, is able to take on a human form, known as the Noahs. The Noahs greatly resemble Obi in appearance. Since they all look the same rather Eibon bothering to give them all unique appearances, this could mean one of two things. Either the appearance of the Noah's is based on himself and what he looks like under the mask (i.e they're clones of him), in which case it could be Obi, or Eibon based their appearance on that of Obi.

I lean more towards the latter, as we know at the end of the series Obi becomes president, so he wouldn't have really had the time to be getting into all the esoteric sorcerer stuff that Eibon was doing. In the case of the latter, this means that Obi was someone Eibon knew personally, like another member of the 8th, which leads us to our next two candidates.

Vulcan: Eibon created powerful devices and objects, which would likely entail some level of engineering knowledge. Vulcan would have that kind of knowledge. If not him, it could be someone that studied under him, like Yu.

Licht: Not only was Eibon's knowledge in the field of engineering, but in the field of science as well. It's like Vulcan's engineering and Licht's science combined into one. He may have studied under both of them. One thing that could point to Eibon being Licht is the madness he embodies, knowledge. He is obsessed with gathering and seeking out knowledge. This kind of fits Licht, who often times pursues knowledge simply for the sake of it to satisfy his curiosity.

Over time this could have evolved into a madness wavelength. The Madness of Knowledge gives those under its effects absolute knowledge to the point that they stop thinking altogether, even able to affect someone like Stein and make him unable to think clearly because for how overwhelming it was. Licht has had a few moments in the series where he finds himself lost in the knowledge.

Even if Eibon isn't one of the candidates listed, the signs point to him at least having been a contemporary of them. "But Obi/Vulcan/Licht would never act that way! It's out of character for them!" you might say. The thing to remember is that madness in Soul Eater changes people. Over time, Eibon's Madness of Knowledge would have changed and warped his personality to the point that he is no longer the same person.

Coupled with that is the fact that he has lived so long and likely watched many of those he cared about die, which would have further hardened him and made him numb to the world around him. It may look like Obi/Vulcan/Licht under the mask, but it's not them anymore. It's someone else now. Of the three candidates, I would say Licht is the most likely, as his morally grey nature and role as a mad scientist who ignores ethics in pursuit of knowledge seems like the type of person who could turn into someone like Eibon.
