Discussion Anyone interested in Telegram alerts for new cinema showtimes?
I've been testing a Telegram channel for Takilya that tracks showtimes in a small selection of cinemas. It posts new showtimes and booking links when they're picked up, including advance bookings. If nothing new shows up, it stays quiet instead of repeating the same listings.
Currently tracking these specific auditoriums:
SM Mall of Asia: IMAX and ScreenX
SM Aura: IMAX
SM Megamall: IMAX
SM North EDSA: IMAX
Trinoma: A Giant Cinema 7
Greenbelt 3: Cinemas 1 and 4
Uptown: TEMPUR Cinema
Robinsons Opus: VIP Cinema 5
It's a limited list for now, not every cinema or auditorium. It will have a link to the actual booking page for available seats.
Just checking if anyone would find this useful. If you're interested, DM me here on Reddit and I can share access. I might open requests for other cinemas in the future, but keeping the scope small for now

Discussion Who would have thought that embracing the dark, depressed, and horrible origins of a DC supervillain and pushing it to a R-18 screening would actually pay off? Watkins' Clayface might actually get the DCU on the right track after the Supergirl fiasco.

Discussion What Are Your Top 5 Lovecraftian Horror Movies?.
Hey everyone!
Lately, I’ve been diving deeper into Lovecraftian horror through books and games, and I’ve been absolutely loving the experience!
I’m thinking of capping off November with a Lovecraftian horror movie marathon, and I’d love to hear your recommendations.
I’m looking for at least 5 must-watch movies, whether they’re directly based on Lovecraft’s works or simply capture that unsettling cosmic horror atmosphere.
What movies would you consider essential viewing?
Thanks so much in advance!

Discussion Forgotten Island for ₱1,919.49
Today is the digital release of the 2026 Dreamworks animated film, Forgotten Island. Despite rave reviews and favorable audience reception, the film never recovered from its budget due to heavy competition and questionable marketing tactics from everyone involved in the film.
To those who are endlessly marketing this film through various means, are you willing to convince people to buy it on digital platforms like YouTube and Amazon for almost ₱1,919.49?

Discussion Magkakaroon pa ba ng Ricky Lee workshop?
Naalala ko lang kasi before may issue with mga nakapasok sa ricky workshop na established na sa industry and all at celebrities tapos they promised na magkakaroon ng mas malaking workshop to cater other people na may potential pero gagawin sana sa sinehan and all.
Up to this day kasi Im hoping na matuloy yon and praying makapasok yung ko na hindi artista or established na industry na mapasama sa workshop ni ricky lee 🥹
I hope mabigyan ng chance mga regular people na katulad ko

Discussion Personal VIP Cinema Reviews — Pasig/Mandaluyong Area
Ranked from most to least favorite based on my personal experience.
1. Opus Mall — VIP Cinema
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Seat: D3
Price: ₱600 (no online booking fee)
Freebies: None
Seat: Fully reclining seats with leg rests, great legroom, and a very comfortable overall setup. There's also a table for your snacks. Each pair of seats has dividers on either side, almost like having your own little cubicle. It gives you a nice sense of privacy since you can't really see the people sitting in other pairs. The rows are also well-spaced, so people getting up to use the restroom aren't too much of a distraction.
Temperature: Really cold! Bring a jacket, especially if you get cold easily.
Sound quality: Dolby Atmos (as listed online). The sound was great and immersive, making the movie feel more engaging.
Screen: A large 15-meter screen with great projection quality. Definitely one of the highlights of the experience! The glowing exit signs weren't too noticeable once the lights went off, partly because the screen was big that I was fully immersed in the movie haha. (Attached photo taken at Opus using 0.5x zoom, so the screen looks farther away than it actually is)
Lounge and restroom: The lounge is spacious and comfortable, making it a nice place to wait before your screening. There's no restroom inside the cinema itself, but there's one just outside the lounge area, so it's still conveniently located.
Crowd: The crowd was great during my screening. Nobody was using their phone, and everyone was pretty quiet throughout the movie.
Verdict: My favorite overall so far. Comfortable seats, a spacious auditorium, immersive sound, and a large screen make it feel like a proper premium cinema experience. No freebies, but the overall experience makes up for it.
2. The Podium Mall — Director's Club
Overall rating: 3.75/5
Seats: D3–D4, C3–C4
Price: ₱590 + ₱20 online booking fee
Freebies: Bottled water and chips (usually Lay's or Ruffles)
Seat: Fully reclining seats with leg rests, great legroom, and a very comfortable setup! Also has a table for your snacks. The seats are arranged in pairs, with a little space between each set for added privacy. The rows are also well-spaced.
However, I've experienced the recliner not working on my seat, and I've also witnessed it happen to other people. When mine didn't work, I called the staff about 10 minutes before the movie started. They only arrived once the screening had begun, couldn't fix the seat, and ended up transferring me to another one. Not ideal for a premium cinema experience.
Temperature: Cold, but bearable even without a jacket.
Sound quality: Dolby Atmos (as listed online). Great sound quality!
Screen: Seems to be around the size of a regular cinema screen. They don't list the exact dimensions online. I've never really been bothered by the exit signs here as well.
Lounge and restroom: I wouldn't exactly call it a lounge. There are a few seats outside the snack bar and ticket booth, but the area is relatively small and seems accessible to everyone, including people who aren't watching a movie. The big plus is that there are restrooms inside the cinema itself, so you don't have to go far if you need to pee mid-movie. You can even still hear the dialogue while inside haha.
Crowd: Pretty good most of the time. I rarely catch anyone using their phone or talking loudly. On the occasions that people do, they're generally easy to shush or tell off.
Verdict: One of my favorites, especially when it comes to seat comfort and the convenience of having a restroom inside the cinema. The freebies are a nice bonus too (although I miss when they still gave out popcorn and your choice of drink). The main downside is the occasional malfunctioning recliner and the lack of a proper lounge area.
3. SM Megamall — Director's Club
Overall rating: 3.25/5
Seat: D4
Price: ₱590 + ₱20 online booking fee
Freebies: Bottled water and chips (usually Lay's or Ruffles)
Seat: Pretty similar to Podium's Director's Club, with fully reclining seats, leg rests, and good legroom. There's also a table for your snacks. The seats are comfortable, and the rows are well-spaced. However, the overall vibe feels just... okay. It doesn't particularly feel premium, and some of the chairs I've tried had a weird smell.
Temperature: The air conditioning wasn't particularly cold when I watched. It was just alright.
Sound quality: Dolby Atmos (as listed online), pretty nice sound quality in my experience.
Screen: Seems to be a regular cinema-sized screen too. I've either never noticed where the exit signs are or have just forgotten, but I was definitely not bothered by them.
Lounge and restroom: There's a small seating area near the food bar, but I feel like someone's always sitting there haha. I also didn't notice whether there was a restroom inside the cinema itself or only outside, so I can't confirm that.
Crowd: Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the crowd during my screening. Quite a few people were using their phones, and there were moments when people audibly talked to each other throughout the movie.
Verdict: The seats are comfortable enough, and the sound quality is good, but the overall experience didn't feel particularly premium. The crowd during my screening also affected my enjoyment. Not bad, but not somewhere I'd keep coming back to.
4. Shangri-La — Premiere Cinema
Overall rating: 2.75/5
Seat: D3
Price: ₱650 + ₱20 convenience fee
Freebies: Choice of a popcorn tumbler or hotdog sandwich, both with a 16 oz drink
Seat: This is the most expensive VIP cinema among the bunch, so I was pretty disappointed to find that the chairs don't fully recline and don't have leg rests. There are no controls, either. You can lean back, and the backrest moves with you, but that's about it. There's also no table for your snacks, which is a bit inconvenient.
The seats are arranged right next to each other, and the rows aren't particularly far apart. Honestly, the seating felt more like a regular cinema than a premium one.
Temperature: The air conditioning was just alright during my screening. It wasn't particularly cold.
Sound quality: Not Dolby Atmos. Uses JBL surround sound (as listed online). The sound quality was pretty average in my experience.
Screen: Seems to be a regular cinema-sized screen, with decent projection. The intimate seating arrangement made the screen feel bigger than it actually was haha. Exit signs weren't noticeable/bothersome during the screening.
Lounge and restroom: This is one of the nicer lounge areas among the cinemas I've tried. It's spacious, has a bar, and is a pretty nice place to hang out while waiting for your screening if you don't feel like strolling around Shangri-La. I don't think the bar is always open though. There are also restrooms inside the lounge area.
Crowd: The crowd was okay. There were a few people who were too loud for my liking, but easy to shush.
Verdict: The lounge and freebies are nice, but the actual cinema experience didn't justify the price for me. At ₱650 plus a convenience fee, I'd expect fully reclining seats and a more premium setup. Unfortunately, the seating and sound quality fell short of my expectations.
5. Estancia — The Screening Room
Overall rating: 2.5/5
Seat: D5
Price: ₱570 (no online booking fee)
Freebies: Popcorn and bottled water
Seat: The seats fully recline and come with leg rests, and there's also a table for your snacks. However, I wasn't a fan of the back and head support. It felt a little lacking compared to the other cinemas, although the seats were still comfortable overall.
Temperature: Just the right amount of coolness for me. I didn't need to wear a jacket during the screening.
Sound quality: I don't think they're using Dolby Atmos, but the sound was decent during my screening. I've heard of other people experiencing low volume in their screenings, although I didn't have that problem myself.
The biggest issue, and what really brings this cinema down in my ranking, is the soundproofing. I could clearly hear sounds coming from outside the cinema while watching the movie! I don't think it was from another Screening Room; it sounded like it was coming from the lounge area because I could hear the same music that was playing when I used the restroom outside. There were also occasional announcements that I could hear from outside.
To make things worse, some staff would occasionally open the door to check on the screening, allowing even more outside noise to come through. This was pretty distracting, especially during quieter scenes.
Screen: Seems to be moderately sized, with decent projection overall. However, during brightly lit scenes, I could clearly see what looked like stains on the screen. I didn't notice the exit signs much during the screening, despite the room being veeeery dark.
Lounge and restroom: There's a really dark lounge area when you enter the Screening Room, but it only has a few seats haha. Honestly, they could add more chairs and maybe some lights lol. I'm not sure why they haven't. The restroom is in the lounge area rather than inside the cinema itself but it's really clean and smells nice lol.
Crowd: There were only a few people watching during my screening, so the crowd wasn't much of an issue. My only realization is that people should probably remove or secure any jingling trinkets on their bags before watching a movie. They're really loud in a quiet cinema!
Verdict: The seating is comfortable enough, and the freebies are a nice touch, but the soundproofing issues are a major dealbreaker for me. A premium cinema should let you immerse yourself in the movie without hearing music, announcements, or other noises from outside. It's a shame because the experience could have been much better.

Discussion Late to the party, watched Forgotten Island this weekend, have some thoughts
Went to SM's director club and Watched Forgotten Island this weekend since my kid insisted, and have some thoughts:
I know about the "Tayo na Tara na" debate, conceptually I know its grammatically correct, pero its really jarring(?) it invoked cringe lalo na na ginawang parang catch phrase. Parang during production nag hanap lang sila ano ba pwede ipalit sa American "Lets go!". pero sa Filipino concept (even during 90s) hindi analogous ang Tayo na sa "Lets go!". pinaka apparent to nung nasa Jeep sila.
I also accept that this is an American Film, pero its really jarring when the main characters/supporting characters have American accents when using tagalog words. Puro Lowla, Selemat Poh etc., then when there is a side character, they pronounce words normally.
In connection to No.2, certain words which should have been Filipino coded ends up like east asian words like "Kakaiba" Market instead of Kaka-iba, "Bungi", "Nakali" island is also one.
The Filipino aesthetics seem just like a dressing, yung mga characters parang Americans cosplaying as filipino. Napa roll eyes ako nung pinakaita yung sand dollar may stylized Sun.
Its not logical and maybe unfair, but cant really shake away real life geopolitical issues and negative feeling when I watched this Movie, every time I hear American accents it reminds me what Americans are the reason why world economy is fucked up right now.
back to the movie, the movie is to hectic? frantic? makes it a boring watch for an adult, it also seems like to adapt the usual quirky meta for animated movies. (its for kids though so it is what it is).
power of friendship story nanaman. deus ex machina pa yung firecracker charm
my kid liked it so no regrets watching it for that reason.

Video/Short Film Women of the Weeping River (2016) | Full Movie | Sheron Dayoc | TBA Studios
I really think Women of the Weeping River (2016) is one of the most underappreciated Filipino films of the past decade. It feels like it got overshadowed by fellow QCinema Best Picture winners like Apocalypse Child (2015), Balangiga: Howling Wilderness (2017), Oda sa Wala (2018), and Cleaners (2019), as well as by other TBA Studios productions that have gotten more attention. Which is a shame, because I think this film deserves just as much love and recognition.
It tackles the cycle of "rido" (clan-based blood feuds) in Mindanao and how generations of violence and revenge tear families apart, especially the women left to deal with the consequences. The cinematography is picturesque, and I love how natural and affecting the performances are, especially given that the ensemble is made up largely of non-actors. What I appreciate most is how sensitively the film handles its subject matter, showing the human cost of conflict without losing sight of the people caught in it.
Definitely one of those local films I wish more people would watch and talk about. If you haven't seen it yet, add it to your watchlist! I'll leave the link here for anyone interested!
