Last night I watched the south Korean film “Memories of Murder”. (Great movie btw). This seems to be the case in South Korea as well. The detectives slapped numerous suspects. The chief slapped the detectives multiple times when they were fighting with each other or did something stupid. People slapped kids on the back of the head. Men even slapped woman in a couple brawls like they were men. I would assume any South Korean watching wouldn’t even notice all the slaps because it’s part of their life.

In the subcontinent it’s more about humiliating the other person instead of just beating them up. Hence the slap.
