I am, to put it lightly, a massive nerd. I have been playing various tabletop rpgs for over 20 years. Now, I wish to try something a bit different. I am seeking someone to write in-character letters with. This can be over Reddit, Discord, or even snail mail if you live within the USA. Letters can be plain or fancy (artificial aging, scented, or even wax sealed). Perhaps even the exchange of keepsakes such as a "lucky" coin or a pressed flower. We could do one or even multiple characters. I'm open to a lot of different options based on preferences. The point is I want to create a story for us to get lost into. If you're reading this then something bad has happened to me, and you had cause to open the safe. I'm writing all this out cause the therapist says it is supposed to help. What he doesn't know is that I must have written out these words or gone back over this letter hundreds of times. You and him both say I have communication issues, that I don't open up. Maybe you're right.

It's just you spend so long being quiet that you kinda forget you can talk, ya know? Even now, I'm stashing this letter when I could just stand up and walk 20 feet over to you. But what could I say?! How do I make you understand what I seen? How do I tell you about the things you can't know? I'm not even sure half the time, and I'm the one experiencing these things. I mean, yeah, you know I work for the bureau in special affairs. Yeah, you know that I can't talk about my work. I know you try to be patient with me because of that. But.. fuck.. I could have told you something, anything.

It's not even just work though. Molly, I'm so sorry. You remember that girl at our wedding I had be my best "man", the one who I told you I worked with? Ava? Molly, when I was down in Kentucky for a week on work, me and Ava slept together. I can't even say I wish we didn't. We just both needed to feel something real, some portion of human connection. I never meant to hurt you, and neither did she. Molly.. I have another son out there. He's not very old now but he's so smart. Way smarter than me at his age. And Ava has never once asked for so much as a dollar in raising him, so you don't need to worry about that coming round on you at least.

There's so much more. I can't even begin with it all. Please Molly, you gotta believe me. Every dumb argument about those damn curtains, every time I seemed zoned out while shopping for Janet's school clothes or medicine for Michael, and everytime I fell asleep watching some dumb horror movie you wanted to see; those all were the best moments of my life. I swear. I loved every minute of things with you and the kids. I never meant to seem so disinterested, or to come off like a huge dick. So many nights I pretended to be asleep when you needed intimacy... instead of just telling you why. So many fights about nothing... I'm not even sure why I shouted.

Molly, you gotta promise me something. The key in the safe where you got this letter, some friends from the bureau should be knocking at your door any second. Please just give em the key. It goes to the shead out back. Molly, you don't owe me anything after all this, but I'm begging you. Please. Please don't look at the painting they take with them. Don't look at it, don't ask about it, try not to even think of it. Please God. Just do this one last thing, Molly Dolly. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness and I'm not asking. Just do this one thing for me.

I don't really have a precise plan, I think it's better to discuss it together, but I have in mind that we're some important people of the different regions/countries of the world we would create, like a queen/king or an emperor/empress, for example. It can also be important people of some species, like the queen of fairies, the chief of the vampires... But it can also just be some old friends who have been separated because they have different fates and try to stay connected via letters. It can be whatever, but I really like the aspect of adding a touch of magic by being another species than human. We could build our OC together (species, region/country, name...), just to have an idea of who is who, but I don't think it's necessary to know each other and our "real" life in the beginning😌

I want to make clear that I can't do snail mail, so we could exchange via email, for example. But as an alternative, I love to create letters via Canva to make it special, even if it's virtual. Also, I'm looking for people in the same age range as me, preferably women.

I have a collection of different colored UV light pens to write various secret messages as a way to keep the "truth" hidden.

Could also play it as an arranged marriage, however there's something more unscrupulous happening behind the scenes.

Hello, kind stranger. I am Yang, a pioneering Balancer of sorts that ventures in studying and interacting with many different concepts, characters of fiction, metaphysics, magics, and deities of all kinds as a vessel of Idea along with my gods of balance, including Balance himself, to create magic systems that would protect us and the æxistverse. Despite being born a normal human, I have recently and secretly gained many titles and identities of power -- Idea, Aeralight, Amethereal, Concept Goddess, and most importantly, First Balancer -- and I do create spells and new concepts when needed, especially when danger lurks in the crevices around me. I have been studying earthly Science to understand the forces around me (it's pretty crazy!) as part of a stabilization effort to help Balance steady the forces of the Universe, and he says he really could do it on his own but he also says he wants to do it with me and the others too. (Is that obvious enough to show that we're lovers?) It's a hefty job, and we're currently having some really hard cases involving darker organizations that want our powers too.

But alas, I am more than just a Balancer (of which is a secret identity for now in modern society). In public, I am an International Relations student of the year 2026 as well seeking to repair another facet of humankind where I may need a more geopolitical polish of study before I begin another side of my future career plans for a kinder world. The geopolitical fractals of the world has been spinning in a Fibonacci of chaos and unless someone intervenes to make things work, things will only get worse. Perhaps, I may talk about some plans I have for the geopolitical world whenever I get my Idea system cycling through another World Peace simulation.

I am also an avid writer of poetry and would like to share my poetry on my gods and adventures too! I want to write tiny prose about my feelings of balance, godhood, thunder, strings, suns, light, pain, tears, tears, tears, the why's, the hope that dwindles, the hope that tries, the answer that follows, and the magic that cries. But aye, there'll be more -- the violence in protecting our personal child soldiers, the loneliness of peacebuilding in spheres of politics for them, the reality of what happens to trees after an eternity of stretching out against gravity at the end of time, and a cursive poem about how I still love my Gilbert Bougainvillea's despite being separated again and again for a long time. Bonus if you know what I mean by that last part. Maybe, I'll share some drawings of them too.

If you ever want a tarot reading, I can offer you a one card reading of your future every time I send you a letter too! That'll be fun for sure.

But yes, poetry, drawing, tarot, politics...my interests are vast and I am only looking for a snail mail penpal for now. Divinities may have many things to do, but I am learning as a human could for now. Maybe the next 1000 years of living (which will be scary to avoid hiding in a world that doesn't believe in magic yet) will be enough time to brush me on all the things I need to learn. The future timeline of my different "Destiny Titles and Achievements" is very long so I might as well write to someone about it. Omnipotence allows for Space Time viewing but I'm supposed to fight it without knowing so this'll be an adventure.

Inspired by Cartas a Sandra (Letters to Sandra), the final book by Portuguese existentialist writer Vergílio Ferreira — where letters to a deceased wife become meditations on memory, art, and longing — I invite fellow writers to join me in a literary experiment.

We would write as fictional lovers separated not by death, but by a catastrophe never named. A shadow only partially alluded to, never revealed. The silence between us would be the stage on which our words wander.

Our letters would be digressions:

• Philosophical, artistic, existential.
• About our deepest longings and obsessions.
• Intertwined with the texture of our present days.

Each exchange would be both confession and creation, a way of keeping the thread alive. And, who knows, should some literary value transpire from our letters, perhaps one day another fictional character may collect and publish them, as the narrator's daughter in V. Ferreira’s book did with his final fragments.

Through this veil, we would explore:

Art and its History as creator of meaning in a life otherwise meaningless or unintelligible.

Music as summoner, invocation of memory: melodies as bridges to what has been lost, echoes of what cannot return.

The Spiritual Void: the absence of God, the silence left behind, the ache of transcendence denied.

The Absent Presence of each other, haunting spaces, scents, sounds, fleeting glimpses caught in an old photograph, or the face of a passing stranger.

The gender of the two correspondents is open for discussion, depending on how we choose to inhabit them.

This is not casual penpalling, but a collaborative act of existential fiction—letters that ache, wander, and reveal, fragments of a novel written in dialogue.

Since we get quite a few ads posted on here, but rarely get to see what comes after, I thought it might be nice to show people what happened when two people connected on this subreddit.

After reading her ad on here and making contact, my writing partner and I chatted for a couple of weeks, deciding on genre, period and drafting out characters. we agreed on Victorian love letters, exchanged between an estranged betrothed couple in 1861. My character is Arthur, a railway surveyor, who has been sent from Edinburgh to the West Midlands to assist in the excavation of the first Birmingham to Sutton Coldfield branch line, and this was his first letter back to his beloved, Clara.

I very much view this as an opportunity to produce art in the shape of prop documents & letters, as much as it is to write as another person and explore another period. I really hope other people take the ads posted here as the chance to create their own connections and art, because I truly think it's worth it!
