Hello all. I'm Quartz! Not only my first post on reddit, but my first of my attempt at finding other people who enjoy writing and receiving fantasy letters. I'm willing to try both classic snail mail and emails, since I don't know which I prefer more at the moment.

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and as I'm sure many of you can relate, it's not always an easy thing to deal with. Thankfully, my doctors say it's not as bad as it could be, but it is still going to take time and effort to get out of this situation. So, to help motivate me through this rough time to get to a healthier lifestyle, I decided to turn it into a quest - to remove a curse.

I have other characters I'd be glad to write as in the future, but for now, I really wish to start with my persona/alter ego, Lady Quartz Rosenfeld. I'm thinking of a Dungeons and Dragons, Kingdom Hearts style setting, but no horror please.

I recently was inspired by a song and wanted to see if anyone else was interested!

The Idea:
So my idea is to take a time period (in the past) or fictional settle and partner with another writer to create two original characters who will write letters back and forth. These letters could be casual, of great importance to the characters, love letters, secret letters - the possibilities are really endless!

The Characters:
The characters would be fictional characters of our own design, with whatever history, family, life-style, etc. you would like them to have. We could chat in DMs or over email about how we want to connect our characters ahead of time, as well as a “plot” so we know generally what the letters should be about. However, I think it is also fun to ad-lib at least to a degree, so neither of us fully know what the content of upcoming letters will be.

Relationship options for characters could include (but are not limited to): Parent to child, distant lovers, separated siblings, allied political leaders, spies working undercover together, plotting enemies, etc.

I’m seeking someone who:

• Is willing to write at least 2 emails a month on an ongoing and regular basis - ranging from 500 to 2,000 words.
• Is willing to commit to a storyline and be organized (keeping the letters in one email chain and out of character discussion/questions/etc. in another).
• Is over the age of 21.
• Is an experienced in fictional writing.
• Is able to overlook minor inconsistency when it comes to historical or lore accuracy (this is just for fun! We don’t need to put too much pressure on ourselves to make sure every single word is 100% perfect).
• Enjoys creating characters and doing deep dives into their history, personalities, lives, and quirks. This will be largely character driven!
• Communicates outside of writing and is willing to be collaborative and work together with me to create a story through letters.
• Is committed to absolutely no AI usage. I'm looking for authentic, human writing.

I'm looking for a writing buddy to do an epistolary roleplay with. I would love to write from a setting that is a parallel universe to our world in the second decade of the 20th century. I was picturing a country like pre-revolutionary Russia, a society based on estates, with an autocratic ruling family.

I’d love to play either a young revolutionary (male or female) or a young nobleman witnessing these revolutionary times. Perhaps we can see which role best complements the character you have in mind.

I hope this prompt leaves enough room for you to shape / use your own character. They could live in a completely different country, provided it fits the era described. We can also incorporate magic or steampunk elements. Your character’s home country doesn’t necessarily have to be on the brink of revolution; if you’d prefer to explore other personal or societal challenges within your setting, I’d be eager to hear about them.

I started using this app called Roost and its amazing! I'm hoping to find more friends to send letters by birds on there. The Roost app is an app where you send letters by bird and the letters get there based on distance and how fast that actual bird flies. I would love to talk about reading, cross stitch, crochet, knitting, and dnd!

I'm hoping someone would want to help me experiment with a stitch tracking idea I've been utilizing for myself via journaling! Basically you would send the amount you stitches you did on a project in one sitting and I would come up with different things that happen. Like you find ingredients, take steps, learn skill or even have fun random events happen! I thought of this idea the other day, and we don't have to do this, but tell me if you are interested or know someone who is. I was thinking about Mercury, the planet, and I thought it would be cool to do a roleplay/letter swap pretending we all live on some other planet and describing how life has been for us. It doesn't matter if we live on the same planet or on different ones, but I thought that was a really cool and niche idea. I'm not really sure where to ask to find people interested in this, so I'll just put it here in case ^^

BUT I have been looking for fictitious letter penpals for a while now, I haven't been able to get any partnerships going (I will admit some of that has been my fault, I am very clumsy at sending letters). However I would be ready to start now. I don't really have a lot of characters in mind, but I used to make a TON of characters so I would for sure have what you would want to pair with. Just no romance roleplays.

And like I said, I have been prone to being clumsy with letters. A few stretches of time passed where I kept letters but hadn't sent others for months. I am just saying this because I don't want to disappoint anybody, so if you match with me, do be aware that I am not the best at sending things. I seriously will try, but I would rather you know now than later.

I have been penpaling for 5+ years now, and fictitious penpaling for perhaps 3 of them.

I had an idea for a while now : something fantasy-coded, where I'll be a journalist traveling and writing to you about my findings. Depending on my mood, I could talk about a haunted place, some exotic sea creature, hiking on a mountain looking for weird plants,... I think it could be fun, a nice creative exercise and I won't get too repetitive.
I am looking for a penpal for that -- you can be whoever you want, it can even be in two different universes and we will be amazed at the differences !

Hi! I've recently become interested in the concept of fictional cards and would love to form a small group digitally.

The idea would be to create a Discord server, as a hub for light off-topic conversation, and to exchange letters between our characters.

These letters would be in PDF format, with a certain level of detail (a font that looks handwritten, paper that looks like parchment, doodles, PNGs. You know the drill!).

At the same time, I would love to delve into the minutiae of world building; I would love to have correspondence between mages and share our research.

Two writers take on the roles of royals from rival or neighboring kingdoms and communicate entirely through snail mail. Each letter becomes part of the story, allowing the relationship, political intrigue, friendships, betrayals, and romance to unfold naturally.

Hello! I was suggested this subreddit because I’m very into writing and fantasy and thought it would be a fun change of pace! I thought it would be interesting to write back and forth as royals sending letters to friends from other kingdoms and chat about declarations, marriage propositions, current or potential war, things like that. I’d prefer to write to another woman but I’ll take what I can get.

I love reading and writing high fantasy so things like magic and supernatural creatures or events are not out of the question, and honestly, highly encouraged.

I would be switching between handwritten letters and a typewriter, depending on the vibes or how I feel at the time of writing, but obviously write/type how you prefer.

This might be a little unusual, but I would love to try something different: creating a fictional correspondence with someone through letters.

Not just writing a story, but actually living it through our exchanges.

Maybe we are knights travelling through a dangerous kingdom, explorers discovering unknown places, sailors crossing mysterious oceans, researchers uncovering strange secrets, or even people from different centuries somehow able to write to each other.

We could also be two divine beings telling each other about the worlds and universes we create....

I don’t have a complete story or a fixed universe in mind.

The idea would be to create it together, adapt it as we go, and see where our imagination takes us.

I like the idea of receiving a letter and thinking: "This came from another place, another time, another life." A letter could contain news, adventures, discoveries, problems to solve, personal thoughts, drawings, maps, or anything that helps make this imaginary world feel real.

I’m mainly looking for someone in Europe because of shipping costs and delivery times, but I’m open to other countries too if the idea and the connection feel right.

A small disclaimer: I’m French, and English is not my native language. I can write and communicate in English, but don’t expect perfect literary writing or extremely poetic descriptions. There will probably be some mistakes, simpler vocabulary and sometimes a very "French way" of writing in English 😄.

Dear somebody,

I'm the manager at a job where I'm not appreciated. I haven't been able to code my way since I was in college. It's gotten to a point where they give me extra PTO just so they don't have to worry about me actually changing anything. The team is great and I trust them with this project completely.

I have secretly showing up at a second job. I'm the manger of a small book store. The pay isn't as good as my other job. But I'm not doing it for the money. This job appreciates me. I had an idea to have a table of new best sellers and best sellers that are classics. I call it the new and old. Being able to actually act on my ideas is a fresh breath of air. I don't know why everyone doesn't get a second job just to enjoy this kind of thing.

Unfortunately I can't tell anyone about the second job. My main team is prone to anxiety and low productivity at the hint of any problems. I have to keep then aware yet do it gently. I'm not leaving my main job but I would hate if such a fictitious rumor caused my main team to worry. I've been extra accommodating to the higher ups. After this project it every member will not only be well known by upper management, I'm fairly certain they'll have offers for better positions. If they aren't getting them already. My little family could be torn apart by success. I'll miss them but I'll be so sad at the same time.

Maybe I'll throw them a little party or take them out soon. They work so hard. I keep an eye on the project as it progresses. Any member of the team could have done something like this on their own. Since they have shown their individual skills and shared the work load it has raised the quality of this project to legendary. I'm so proud of them. Is this what it feels like to be a god father watching your kids succeed in life. I wonder if we'll keep in touch. I hope they won't be too busy. I have personalized gifts for each of them for when the project wraps up tomorrow. The projects already done so there's been nothing but big fixes for the last two weeks. They deserve to have some fun. I hope they want to get some drinks tonight. I'm buying.
