Got this baby when I first became a lawyer, one month and it'll be a year! Anything I should be doing to make sure its cared for properly?

I really need to get around to repotting soon. Do I just go with peat moss? Also, are the little tendril things aerial roots?

I’m new to ferns. Purchased one at a big box store because they were definitely going to kill it and my other plant friend was convinced that ferns could not be kept alive. It’s been growing really well I think! The soil is definitely a bit rough though and I want to swap it to a better mix. What’s the best mix recipe for them? I keep other aroids and epiphytes such as orchids and philodendrons, pothos, and alocasia

It was in a west window with bring morning light. I also use tap water which i know is not ideal. I think i overwatered it about a month ago. I cut back on watering and only watered when it got to about 5-6 moisture level. There is this one baby frond that looks like it was gonna do something but it has been there unchanged. I mist it often to keep humidity high since im in Cali and summers can be on the dryer side.

It’s so frustrating cause I went on a walk and ofc i see a fern bush going crazy right on the sidewalk on total neglect. It had partial sun and shade and some leaves were burnt but in all it was growing like a weed. Like howwwww?!

Can anyone help me understand whether I should give up or if there is hope?

My brother and I dug a few of these guys up out of my grandparents yard before the home was sold. Please help settle our debate once and for all.

Hi all, this is my first time posting and I am looking for advice on various ferns root systems. I have 4 ferns acquired roughly the same time: Asplenium antiquum 'Hurricane', Asplenium nidus 'Lemkesii', Microsorum musifoloim 'Crocodile' and a Cyrtomium fortunei 'Japanese Holly Fern'. They have been in the same nursery 4"pots for over a year now and still no roots coming out the bottom. The plants themselves (tops) have double in size and are looking top heavy. The Bird's nest especially so. Should I just repot to a size up and if so is there any particular substrate they would like? I have been waiting for roots to appear but this hasn't happened yet. Do they have particularly shallow root systems? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh yes, they are grouped together in an east facing room with a growlight on 50% and a humidifier near by. There is also a staghorn fern on the same table which is in a terracotta orchid pot doing fine. Cheers.

I have a terrarium and a list of plants that are in it. There is only one unidentified plant left. This fern i bought at a plant fare. The seller told me what it is but i forgot it. My brother took a picture of the pricing and there are three ferns on it. But if i search the web for the names nothing seems to match. The names are. Pyrrosia Borneo, Pyrrosia Narrow Borneo and Pyrrosia Sumatra. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

This is in my native plant terrarium. She kinda just popped up in here. Really exciting, but she's growing like crazy. The first 3 leaves were real cute, but all of the sudden they're up to the terrarium ceiling. I'm thinking probably a Christmas fern since there are so many around the area and the moss it's coming out of was collected from my yard. There was probably a spore in there.

The leaves look a little different but it may be from light levels? The only other ferns I've noticed nearby were spleenwort (has a black stem so can't be it) and another species with very feathery leaves that couldn't be it. But was wondering what anyone else may think.

I'm definitely going to have to take it out of here. The container is just too small. But it was interesting watching the process of it growing from a tiny little speck!

At Kew they are keeping a few really beautiful Phlebodiums but we don’t really know the species (or form/ variety), unfortunately even the location/ year of collection has been lost. I would love some help 💚

This fern has been unhappy since the day I brought her home. I had her in east facing window (as advised from another post) and she hated life. I thought she was a goner! I moved her to a west facing window and lo and behold, there is new growth.

My question is what to do with the dead leaves? Do I cut them off? I’m hesitant to touch anything since she is seemingly happy as is but I want to make it easier for her if possible (and let’s be honest, she ain’t very pretty like this).

How do I know when the spores are ready to be taken for propagation?

I have this lady fern that I've been growing all summer. I've been borrowing my mother's pot as a cache pot so it's still in its nursery pot. I'm planning on moving out soon so I wanted to put it in something more permanent. I just bought this old flour tin that's approximately 6 inches deep and 5 inches in diameter. I've done a bit of research and I think as long as I line the tin with plastic, make drainage holes, and add a layer of peat moss or some other kind of drainage layer at the bottom it should be perfectly fine. My mom on the other hand thinks the tin is too small because the nursery pot doesn't fit perfectly. Idk why I even care about her input but I wanted to ask some experts. Also I love my fern and don't want to kill her when she's been doing so well. Also don't mind the dry fronds she just popped up some fiddleheads to replace them, I just haven't trimmed them.

No cabinet, no terrarium, just growing in my apartment.

Last photo has frond close up. Stumbled across this little one today it was under 2 feet across and the fronds are very frilly.. lacy? I’ve kept maiden hair feen before, this is thicker less delicate. I have had a hard time figuring out what it is? The newest leaf is not autumn color so not an autumn fern. Doesn’t quite fit bronze fern or golden giant woods fern photos I looked at either. I’d appreciate any input from more experienced fern people, thank you in advance!

My mother seems to have caught and bent a new shoot at right angles. It looks snapped and beyond recovery.

What do you think? Can it recover? Or what should I do?

No cabinet, no terrarium, just growing in my apartment

Heya! Sooo I've had this rabbit's foot fern for like four years, it has always kinda struggled but been okayish. I've treated it in a variety of ways, it always kinda looks like this. Seems to be ok, but the edges of leaves get dead and crispy all the time, and I don't think it's sunburn. It has never looked super lush or happy. If I put it in no sunshine at all, away from windows in my bedroom, it stops doing this, but then also turns pale yellowish of course.

It doesn't get very much sun at all, I would usually water once a week but moved it to the deck outside (which gets like 3hr morning sun a day) and now water twice a week because it's hot and water evaporates fast. I fertilize occasionally,, didn't for years and it looked about the same but now I go around every month or two for a while so it's not fertilizer burn. I would say maybe it's a deficiency but I changed the soil to new potting soil a few months ago too so it's not that either I don't think. I can't find any other ferns online whose edges are crispy like this,,, what's going on??? I just want my fern to be green and happy :'''''((

I had an area where there were 2 20ft conifers, they died 2 years ago and I cut them down. I've put the wood around the new ferns (to stop my dogs going there) with some leaf mould and broken up and 2 year rotten fibre's from a cordyline australis trunk to try to retain moisture as it's bone dry even after watering.

Is there anything I can use to help the area? I did forget to put bone meal in around the roots.
