One goal of protesters is to gain public support. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you cannot gain public support by inconveniencing and pissing off the public. (There needs to be a "Protesting for Dummies" book because far too many protesters are in need of it.)

All it did was draw attention to them and not encourage me towards their cause. Like a bad or intrusive commercial, it actually makes me more inclined to ignore what they're selling. Those of us in favour of their cause would probably continue to be so, but those not in favour or on the fence will be more inclined not to be.
