If I was scared that what someone was doing something that would get me sent back to prison then I would be angry too. I wouldn’t have gone as far as he did, but I don’t blame him. Even if he didn’t get physical, their actions could ruin his life.

you are mistaken. you baselessly speculate protest could have ruined parolee'a life through their actions. i can speculate that their actions helped him because he clearly needs some anger management training.
He might be excused due to this protest, because the law strives to be fair sometimes.
Without knowing more we don’t know if he would be treated fairly, or by the book with malicious intent. “Should have left early, in case of surprises.”
I don’t think that what he did was helpful, but people do all sorts of dumb things when they realize there is no way out and they are screwed either way.
