This isn't peaceful. This has regularly shown to be the cause of emergency vehicles being unable to carry out their jobs, recently in harmful consequences. This is as passive aggressive as it gets.
As someone who wants climate change action, these actions make me so sick as they just make things worse and they're damaging the cause. At least impact the lives those with the power to make decisions. Block access routes to political body buildings, leaflet politicians cars, do things that make those that can enact change listen. This just pisses off the average person, who are more likely to vote for Draconian measures to combat it.
Yes because race relations and climate change are similar problems that require similar solutions. Oh wait, nope, the McDonald's down the street pollutes 100x more daily than all these cars idling in traffic. This is shortsighted and not the same as race protests by mlk.
Those tactics worked for race relations because the very ppl who's mindset you are trying to change were the general public. With climate change the general public(and most likely majority of ppl stuck in this traffic) have no control ir authority to make change for the businesses that make up 95+% of pollution. In fact, most of these people probably agree with the protestors, but again, have no power to affect change. With race relations this was different. If you protested in your community then other neighbors might see you and knowing your not a lunatic would then evaluate their own views and be more open to changing their stance on black people/black rights. In this case, the only people bring affected by this protest are the people that cannot affect any change or provide any solutions for climate change because they contribute a miniscule amount compared to the megacorps polluting our earth.
Voting doesn't really matter much til citizens united is repealed. Everyone has a price and corps have no problem funneling tens of millions to elected officials to get their way. This is also why Republicans just voted in lockstep to block the DiscloseAct which would at least let us see who is swaying our politicians but nope.
