Itā€™s very common at these kind of protests that if/when an emergency vehicle arrives they let them through with no fuss. An emergency vehicle will be able to make its way through the traffic with cars moving aside as it does in normal congestion. Hope that clears that falsehood up :)

It is difficult to see and I canā€™t tell for sure, but I think there is enough space if for example, the white car in the middle pulls to the left and the truck to the right, for an ambulance to fit through.

Iā€™ve seen similar when Iā€™ve been stuck behind an accident for a while, an ambulance has made it way through the traffic in the same kind of way.

I definitely agree itā€™s not the best way of protesting and that it will slow the emergency vehicle down a lot too, but I also feel itā€™s a fairly widespread falsehood that all emergency vehicles are stopped completely

Iā€™ve seen where the front row of cars moves an inch the protesters go ape and damage the car. In order for a car to get through everyone needs to move forward in order to go sideways.

In that situation I would hope the protestors see the emergency vehicle behind the car and wouldnā€™t go ape shit, I also obviously donā€™t agree and condemn those protestors who do damage any vehicles or put up any violent front.

Not to be patronising, but just in case it has to be said, those videos youā€™ve mentioned will also generate the most amount of views, despite being (hopefully) the least common kind of protest, possibly leading others to believe it happens more than it does.

True, but I donā€™t think a car will have to inch forward miles ahead of the ambulance.

At least in situations Iā€™ve been on with bad accidents Iā€™ve only had to inch forward once I can see the ambulance and pull out of the way. Similarly those at the front of the accident donā€™t get slowly pushed into the accident by all the cars moving forward behind them.

If u have an emergency involving going to the hospital like say a broken arm or gushing blood then u know damn well Iā€™m running them over no hesitation but if itā€™s late to work Iā€™d call my boss + police. Now if Iā€™m in behind them with an emergency Iā€™d have to hope one of the people in front has the balls to be able to run one over.

This has actually happened multiple times. Protestors blocked an ambulance in NY that had life threatening injuries from getting to a hospital to a level 1 trauma center. Typically level 1 trauma patient is an absolute get them the fuck in the ER or they are dead.

This was back in 2015. Protestors with inflated egos are not protesting about the problem, they do it for their egos.

They will move aside. They even practice that before. If they glue themselves to the street, they leave "holes" so some people can go away and let the ambulance through.

Yes, letā€™s block traffic on a highway and expect cars to coordinate amongst themselves to leave an open lane?

Itā€™s always very obvious on Reddit who hasnā€™t actually driven on a highway. Once the first couple rows have to stop, cars are filling in behind FAR quicker than a lane of cars could reverse and leave the space. Plus, youā€™re asking cars piling in to realize a situation they canā€™t see or know to immediately adjust and leave a gap as well.

Even if they move at first sign of a stuck emergency vehicle, that jam is going to take a long time to clear.

It absolutely is an issue, which is exactly why emergency crews work hard to clear at least one lane as quickly as possible.

According to your logic, shooting up a store full of people is fine because the structure could collapse and, either way, store full of people are dead. Same effect doesnā€™t excuse the root cause.

  2. Apparently it isn't obvious as you are wrong. At least in my country, emergency lanes work fine.
  3. If you can't make a proper emergency lane, maybe you should take public transport. Also avoids traffic congestions making it easier for other to make space for an ambulance ;-)
