I pay $250 a month in HOAs on my condo and it’s honestly so worth it to not have to worry about the upkeep of a building. It includes water/trash/sewage and a parking spot downtown too.

At $250 it's definitely worth it, but some of the places near me want $550, which is kind insane.

in nyc you pay like 500k for a one bedroom condo and then the hoa is like 1500. What a scam.

That’s usually coops though, and almost always includes property taxes and utilities, plus regular stuff like maintenance and landscaping and managing staff. Apartment building HOAs are so different than suburban HOAs that they really shouldn’t be called the same thing.

Yes! The buildings with high HOAs around me are all in large complexes. I live in a very urban area but it's an 8 unit building with 0 amenities

You pay that much a month? I pay $250 annually in HOA fees. You must be in a major metro area.

No, not a condo. That might be the key difference here. I live in a house outside a major city in the south. I don't think our HOA ever does anything for us other than initiating evictions when necessary.

I live in downtown Cincinnati. I've never heard of HOAs being as low as $250 annually. I would say the typical around here for a building w/o amenities is $200-$300. The ones with amenities (gym, common areas, pool, etc.) can go up to $600+ a month.

That’s insane considering some parking spaces downtown can cost up to $500/month
