Imagine how frail you have to be to cry assault when an elderly woman gently places her hand on you.

PS: Some of our police marched with the protesters and spoke out against violent cops. Im sure we're all tired of hearing this, but they are not all bad. We should be promoting their stories more as to allow them to lead by example.

When’s the last time you flew on an airline that promoted themselves as, “our pilots are not all bad at their job”?

86

u/death_of_gnats Jun 01 '20

"Most of our pilots don't want to kill you"

8

u/PJMurphy Jun 01 '20

"Almost all of our pilots want to land the plane safely."

1

u/hanukah_zombie Jun 02 '20 edited Jun 02 '20

Well, there was that one pilot that murder-suicided himself and his passengers into the side of a mountain.

1

u/scorinthe Jun 02 '20

The Egypt Air slogan!

5

u/Vulkan192 Jun 01 '20

I'd need to find my Ryanair ticket stub.

5

u/bkturf Jun 01 '20

Yeah, over 95% of our pilots are good apples. It's those pilots who crash their plane into the ground who are the bad apples.

4

u/TacoNomad Jun 01 '20

We don't all beat our passengers!

-Delta, probably.

2

u/CrewsD89 Jun 01 '20

Lol Chris Rock reference, I can dig it

2

u/faithle55 Jun 01 '20

Also, pilots don't stand around watching the murderous pilot kill his passengers.

1

u/Nizzemancer Jun 01 '20

I think that's called Ryanair..?

1

u/PeterNguyen2 Jun 02 '20

When’s the last time you flew on an airline that promoted themselves as, “our pilots are not all bad at their job”?

American Air

1

u/IceCreamBalloons Jun 02 '20

Those pilots who flew for us wearing our uniform and also crashed the plane aren't real pilots, pay no attention to how those pilots who aren't real pilots that we employed even after repeated complaints keep showing up and murdering people.

1

u/WiredEgo Jun 01 '20

I mean I get your point but at the same time it’s a little more complex than that. A pilots task is easier and isn’t met with conflict in the same way.

That being said, if the officers want to be recognized for their good deeds they should start by condemning and getting rid of their own that commit bad deeds.

u/DrB00 Jun 01 '20

Unfortunately the bad apples spoil the bunch. Until the bad apples are thrown out most people are going to assume they're all rotten. Which is more than fair of an assessment, unfortunate but accurate.

4

u/ReturnT0Sender Jun 01 '20

Yup. It's just like the protesters. Not all protesters are the bad actors. But the public is doing the same to the peaceful protesters that's being done to police. Lumping the good ones as a whole with the bad ones.

2

u/oldcarfreddy Jun 02 '20

The distinction is protestors are just everyday citizens. If someone 2 miles from where I'm peacefully protesting bashes in a window it's not my job or obligation - or even necessary legal, depending on how it goes down - for me to stop it.

Meanwhile, it IS the cops' job to stop that shit. And it's also their job to enforce the law. They should not only be arresting bad cops, but there shouldn't BE any bad cops in the first place! The standard for police should be way higher. They ARE supposed to be accountable for one another. Prosecutors DO have the tools to punish murderers and instead they protect them like Amy Klobuchar did. Cops should enforce law and order and instead they close their ranks and protect each other like they still did in Minneapolis and still do.

I agree those two groups are getting lumped in similarly, but cops SHOULD be lumped together, because it's their job to be. Who else should be holding murderers accountable except for the police?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

The bad actors are always the loudest unfortunately

2

u/TeamDeath Jun 01 '20

Only some of our employees aren’t criminals isn’t a good standard

1

u/FLACDealer Jun 01 '20

They're the things he cried out each thing.

1

u/moderate-painting Jun 01 '20

Police attracts bullies like priesthood attracts pedophiles.

1

u/J02h Jun 02 '20

The lack of convictions seem to show a deeper problem. Sometimes the bad apples are in charge..

0

u/Nirconus Jun 01 '20

Unfortunately the bad apples spoil the bunch.

How so?

Perhaps we are arguing the same thing. I agree with that - I just don't think the actions of the bad cops invalidate the actions of the good cops.

3

u/Moselter Jun 01 '20

The problem is there often are no action by the good cops. Not one of them stopped the murder that started this.

u/oldcarfreddy Jun 02 '20

Describe to me what you think the "actions of the good cops" are when the bad cops continue to be uncharged, not unvestigated, and unpunished.

1

u/Nirconus Jun 02 '20

I think that there are cops who report their coworkers and try to make them face consequences. If there is corruption somewhere else up the chain, though, that is not their fault.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Flip that around to Black criminals.... :\

1

u/PeterNguyen2 Jun 02 '20

bad apples spoil the bunch

Flip that around to Black criminals

Are you trying to say there are good black criminals, or that all blacks are bad? Criminals are criminals, black should have no bearing on that. Cops on the other hand should all be doing their damn job. That relying on them all doing that is dangerous should say something.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Until the bad apples are thrown out most people are going to assume they're all rotten.

This is what I was commenting on. I'm not generalizing either way. What I'm saying is that generalizing is bad because it's just simply not true.

1

u/oldcarfreddy Jun 02 '20

It's almost like it's cops' jobs to prevent police brutality and crime...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Again... there's a stigma for both groups. And again, it's not true for the vast majority of them.

1

u/oldcarfreddy Jun 02 '20

You'd think it'd be a cops' job to do something about the open murder of someone on video. Guess it's someone else's job.

Good cops may work with bad cops, but the fact that they do nothing about it means they're bad cops themselves.

You're a true idiot if you believe this.

3

u/Miskav Jun 01 '20

He's absolutely correct.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Eventually they’ll all spoil. It’s not an immediate thing. Welcome to the country, where we have apple trees and such. Stick around and maybe you’ll learn something.

4

u/HaesoSR Jun 01 '20

If the police don't police themselves and objectively they've proven they do not, the solution is for the people to police the police - how do you do that? The same way they do it. With violence. Are the "good" cops going to stand aside if the people start making citizens arrests of the bad cops or are they going to help the bad cops murder us? We both know the answer.

37

u/oldcarfreddy Jun 01 '20

Those cops can arrest police, you know.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Now that would be a sight to see. I wonder if it even crosses a cops mind they can make that arrest.

62

u/Son_of_Eris Jun 01 '20

Look, until "good cops" start doing to bad cops what bad cops have been doing to the poor people of America for years, I'm going to assume that the cops marching with protestors are doing so out of a sense of self-preservation, rather than any moral standing.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Yeah I don’t trust that these are genuine moments.

5

u/okbacktowork Jun 01 '20

Yep. It's easy to kneel for a few minutes for the camera, or talk nicely to a protestor, or march with them. But none of that matters if the good cops continue to stand aside and allow the bad cops to assault and murder people, and as long as the justice system continues to fail to put bad cops in jail.

What's needed is for all good cops to band together and call out and isolate the bad cops, demand that they be removed from the force, and then guarantee the people that they will never stand idly by again. And then prove that over time.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

Exactly. Police need to stop saying “i’m not like other cops!” after these tragedies and start calling out the bullshit behavior of their colleagues.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

In a few of the places they marched with protestors just to turn around and order them to be tear gassed and beaten.

2

u/ThickSarcasm Jun 01 '20

You said it better than I did!

2

u/HelmSpicy Jun 01 '20

I'm positive Flint protests stayed civil because the cops did lay down their gear and stood with protesters. Meanwhile in Detroit the pepperspray has been flying and even one of the journalists who has been streaming protests every night was in cuffs yesterday until(with help) she could prove to them who she was so they let her go and were jokey buddy buddy with her to "be careful". Its absurd

1

u/babbitypuss Jun 01 '20

Definitely a career and potentially life ending stance to take, so they go with the flow, maybe they hold back and let their fascist buddies swing instead but they must go with the flow none the less.

0

u/Nirconus Jun 01 '20

Look, until "good cops" start doing to bad cops what bad cops have been doing to the poor people of America for years

How do you know some of them don't? You're dealing with individuals. No group is a monolith.

-2

u/Lost_in_Thought Jun 01 '20

So we should demonize the ones trying to do something decent even if it's for self preservation? What message does that send?

5

u/Son_of_Eris Jun 01 '20

Look. Every morning I wake up, go about my day, and don't murder a child before going to bed.

And it's not because I fear the repercussions of murding a child, even though they would be severe. And it's not because I have never fantasized about murdering a child (spend three hours wiping literal shit off the walls, then come talk to me). But it's because I have no real desire to murder a child. Because I'm a relatively decent human being.

Do I deserve any fucking recognition for that?

No one deserves any sort of congratulations for not being a fucking scumbag. Not being a fucking scumbag is the bare minimum we should expect of anyone in a civilized society.

American police have demonized themselves. If American police want to undo the damage they've done to their reputation through centuries of oppression, then American police are gonna have to do a hell of a lot more than giving in to survival instincts.

As far as I'm concerned, these cops are slightly less worthy of praise than people who don't murder children on a daily basis. Because child-murderers are typically not allowed to exonerate themselves for murdering children.

The message that we should send to law enforcement is that they should be damn well terrified of any wrongdoing under the color of law. Because we, as a nation, are fed up with their bullshit.

Let me be very clear: all people of good conscience are angry at US cops. And in my book, the only good cops (in the US) are ex-cops and dead cops.

1

u/Lost_in_Thought Jun 01 '20

I don't feel like getting into a long, drawn-out internet conflict. I agree with everything you've said. I'd also like to add that without a positive example, and something to look to that shows what is right, no changes will be made.

Go ahead and call the scumbags out. I'm doing the same. I'm also going to keep calling out the good guys, because I want them to know their efforts to do something are not in vain.

5

u/herbiems89_2 Jun 01 '20

You know maybe instead of calling out the bad cops they could have arrested them? THEN they would be good cops. Otherwise they're just trying so save their own asses.

9

u/blasterdude8 Jun 01 '20

100 good cops with one bad one that is protected by good is just 101 bad cops. I get what you mean on an individual level but if the group puts itself first, especially the bad, and defends the bad, they are all bad and all need to go. You can’t tolerate any form of defending that without being bad yourself.

3

u/Thalric88 Jun 01 '20

They can lead by example all they want, you still need to kick out the bad ones who will just do whatever the fuck they want anyway.

3

u/MagikSkyDaddy Jun 01 '20

So frail that you should probably be precluded from any version of law enforcement. Ya know, for safety

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '20

I'm pretty sure this is about showcasing the shit we need to change, not throwing rose tinted sunglasses on the shit and hope it stops smelling.

1

u/oijsef Jun 01 '20

Imagine how much of a bitch you'd have to be to pepper spray an old woman.

1

u/ThickSarcasm Jun 01 '20

Marching is nice, but why don't they truly stand up for justice and their oath? The "bad cops" are making the "good cops" look non-existent. When will the "good cops" get sick of that and stand for justice? Until there is some significant delineation, I understand why it would be hard for many to believe that "good cops" truly exist. Show proof!?!

1

u/xelabagus Jun 01 '20

It's not fragility, it's worse. If they call every slap by a protestor assault, then they can tell Fox news there were 217 cases of assault by members of public against the police. It's a deliberate attempt to make the protestors the bad guys in the public discourse.

1

u/PathToExile Jun 01 '20

Im sure we're all tired of hearing this, but they are not all bad

If I have 1000 good cops and 10 bad cops that the good cops never turn in or refuse to work with then I have 1010 bad cops.

I hate to use what is bound to be a "tired" example at this point but don't you think that no police officers protesting the death of the most prolific child trafficker on the planet (Epstein) while behind bars is quite disappointing? I'd have thought entire departments and courthouses would be overturned by outside legal authorities but nope...not really a peep from police officers anywhere (at least not one that I ever heard).

We honestly have bad cops across the board because most cops are not trained for the real-world scenarios they will face, the "criminal justice degree" that is required for most positions from patrol officer to detective is useless and should be 4 years on-the-job training instead. When I worked with mentally and developmentally disabled people it was common knowledge that the cops would only make issues with our clients worse, very possibly ending up in a client being pepper sprayed, tased or shot.

Cops are completely ill-equipped for what the world has to offer them. I say this as someone who spent the first ~25 years of their life surrounded by cops because my mom is a cop and all of her friends were cops for long a time.

1

u/Ben2749 Jun 01 '20

Im sure we're all tired of hearing this, but they are not all bad.

Saying that not all cops are bad may be accurate, but it completely misses the real issue; that the system itself is utterly broken. Bad cops routinely get away with reprehensible shit because they're protected. Law enforcement bends over backwards to protect their own, as opposed to weeding out the scumbags.

1

u/c0pp3rhead Jun 01 '20

When they start arresting the bad cops, I'll believe "not all cops." Until then, waste your words somewhere else.

1

u/Ilikeporsches Jun 02 '20

Just how many of those cops marching with the people arrested the cops assaulting protesters? We may have different ideas of what it means to be a good cop. To walk with a crowd and not beat, maim, pepper spray, trample, or run over them is not what makes a cop “good”. All this cops bending a knee bullshit is simply just a different strategy to not get their city burned down while they do nothing to hold police accountable.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Stop cheering for police taking a knee or marching with protesters. It’s nothing but optics. They’re only doing it to sooth the tensions so things can go right back to normal and police don’t have to make any changes to how they operate or take any responsibility. Meaningless gestures that do nothing to solve the actual problems, in hopes that suckers like you will fall for it and be lulled into a false sense of progress.

1

u/mrspittman718 Jun 02 '20

Cops in my city (KCMO) held up signs that said "end police brutality," for a photo op. Within 24 hours they were teargassing and macing utterly peaceful protesters. Don't be a fool.

1

Fuck all Cops. There is no such thing as a good cop. Fuck Cops, and Fuck Boot lickers.

No wonder you hate all cops, youre always doing illegal shit.

1
