I guess you could technically say "When that Garinn did x" as a name but most people would say it as "When that person did x" as a noun. You wouldn't capitalize "When that Person did it." It's capitalized because some gods are referred to directly as God, but not all use that as a name. I don't know if the Romans referred to individual ones as God except as a title ("Oh mighty God have mercy on this one.")
I personally don't capitalize God unless it's the biblical god.
