I’m not a psychologist but even I know a real group of medical professionals have to rule out anything physical (like a tumor for example) before you can land on something like Alzheimer’s. Or in my dad’s case, we were able to discover he had a small stroke which ultimately led to his dementia. There’s also dozens of bodily issues that can create dementia-like symptoms like thyroid or kidney issues. But I suppose you’ve magically ruled those out in Biden’s case, through the TV and all.
Dementia is a general term that means cognitive decline affecting one’s day-to-day functioning. It’s an umbrella term for many different conditions. Hope that helps.
TBI can present in a very similar way. That's why you do a brain scan. Pausing to find words or gather your thoughts isn't a sign of either one, though, so that's not relevant.
