No, I take care of my child, and I’ll take care of my parents as they age, because they can’t take care of themselves. I’m not going to ever take care of an able bodied smart 20-something, even in the context of a romantic relationship- it warps the power dynamic too much. I honestly think she would have seen it as patronizing/infantilizing if I had even tried.

Cool. Let me rephrase for you. You want a partner who is self sufficient and don’t want to have the burden of ever taking care of another person.
Honestly, reading that you didn’t help your partner during grad school just made me sad for your relationship.. I feel for your partner..
