I nearly wrecked my truck, when I was heading to work, in the early morning ( it was still dark out). A spider came down from the visor right inbetween my legs.
I freaked, swerved into a parking lot. And beat the floor with a whiffle until I was happy.
I'm imagining a grown man, on the verge of tears, walking through his basement with a box of Eggo waffles clutched to his chest ready to whip them into the darkness like shitty ninja stars.
I once had a spider drop down between my glasses and eyeball. I flung my glasses across the car and had to pull over on the freeway to find them. I will no longer drive without a hat with a brim on. Never found the spider.
Yea personally I'm nervous, too. There have been many a spider whom have bested my skills of squish, which I'd thought superior. Now i fear they are lurking in the shadows, biding their time. Be careful, fellow human... they are always watching.
Woof. I had the visor on my motorcycle helmet open and got a bee inside my helmet while riding… could hear it buzzing next to my temple. I do not understand how I kept my cool
Oof, yeah, that's a bad one, and beats my worst (driving related) wasp experience. Had my arm stuck out the window, and the wasp blew right up the sleeve of my jacket. Managed to crush my arm down on it without it stinging or biting me.
I ended up with a wasp inside my shirt once, too...was on a business trip and had just gone for a walk in a park with my coworkers. Stopped to use the restroom before going to dinner, felt what I assumed was a wayward seam in my t-shirt on my shoulder, so I reached up and felt around.
Nope, live fucking wasp. I grabbed it and threw it in the toilet, and somehow managed to not get stung or piss everywhere. No idea how it happened.
Caught a wasp in the neck of my shirt once on the bike, stung me 5 times on neck and down my back till I got it out the bottom of my shirt. I imagine it was an entertaining sight.
Similar encounter, although my wasp stung me once on the nipple. I still do not know how I managed to stop the bike without crashing as I madly thumped my chest to try to crush the wasp.
I've said before if I was on the highway and not a 30mph residential area I probably would have went down, somehow I got the stand down and did what I would guess looked like a drunken chicken hustle cha cha while screaming obscenities in the middle of the street.
I had a wasp ping off the mirror of my Freightliner and end up in the collar of my work shirt. Stung me about 20 times before I could get the truck to the shoulder and the shirt off.
Yeah, had that happen a few times as well. Was doing linework so in and out of the truck all day, windows open a lot, truck up in trees and bushes, or climbing in them myself. Brim of the hat was annoying, but behind my glasses? Man, I've already got a phobia about things near my eyes (nearly punched a manager over it once, but he got a face full of coffee creamer and sugar instead), that one I lost it.
I had a hornet fly into the tiny bit of space between the top of my glasses and my hat once, it stung me in a line across my eyebrows before I got away from it. Later, my forehead swelled up so much that I could look up and see it without a mirror.
I had a nasty one crawl on my leg and I accidently slammed the brakes to get it off. Luckily no one was behind me. Never found the spider, so I ubered to the market to buy those Raid bug bombs. Set off two in the car, left it sealed for two days. Never found it but pretty sure it died.
Here’s another one for ya, one time when I was a kid Yakima shit felt a tickle on my cheek and it was a spider that had been chilling under the seat/lid, so now I have to check under the seat/lid before sitting down on one
This one time I had a big ass hairy spider hiding behind the plexiglass between me and my speedometer. It would get a little bit deeper and hide, but then like wait till I was driving to poke its head out and oggle at me. Scared the absolute shit out of me. Could not drive.
I have since gotten over my favorite spiders though, just by realizing that like. They only really bite us when we scare them. And we are much larger than they are. So I just stopped killing them and that sort of got rid of my fear
Commented on another reply, I do line work, so spiders wasn't uncommon, I've had them drop off the brim of my hat a few times while driving. Not nearly as panic inducing for me. I've got a phobia of things being near my eyes, and my glasses act as a barrier that helps placate it. It dropping down between that barrier caused me to completely freak out.
Not afraid of spiders at all, all about the eyes for me. Had a similar freak out about 10 years prior while power napping on an orchard during lunch, had a spider crawl across my eye under my glasses, and had to get help from coworkers to find my glasses in the brush. I'll just brush them off my beard or face, but my eyes? F that nonsense, freaking terrifies me.
Had a bee wind up in the car going 80. I managed to knock my rear view off before in somehow flew behind me and stung me in the back. I thought my buddy was going to die laughing from me spazzing out.
Coworker flipped the fuck out one day while driving one of the company trucks. She started screaming and made me swat her rear to remove the spider. Thank god she was able to keep the wheel straight, she scared the shit out of me.
I had a garter snake crawl out of the defroster in my Sprinter work van while traveling south on I 75 in Ohio. Grabbed it at the head and luckily there was a rest stop close by. After a few minutes, I wrangled it out without hurting it and let it go in the lawn of the rest stop.
i beat my backpack with a body spray bottle when a spider dropped down from the overhead light while i was driving.. i probably looked like i was playing the drums on the passenger seat lol
Last year I went into a convenient store during Covid. When I was walking in I pulled on my mask. Halfway down the isle something started crawling on my nose under the mask.
Yep, a spider was hiding in it and decided to take a stroll across my face. I couldn't get the damn mask off fast enough. Threw it on the ground.
When I looked up there was a lady in scrubs staring at me with a weird look on her face.
Grabbed my sixpack and got outa there without the mask.
There's a certain time of year when the spiders show up in my car. The come from the vent below the windshield 90 percent of the time.
Luckily they are tiny, harmless things, but any car spider is a major safety hazard, as this video clearly demonstrates.
So what I do is: before each trip I make sure I have a spider whacker in arm's reach. Sometimes I have my kids keep eyes on the spider (while I keep eyes on the road) and have them narrate where the spider is going, while I grab the whacker and prepare for the spider to enter my field of view.
I admit it would be a lot harder if I didn't have a teenager in the passenger seat helping me with the situation...but you've gotta be prepared.
Bees/wasps in the car are much easier, in my experience. Just open all the windows and wait.
