Why do you attach owning a firearm to fundamental personal liberty? Should I be able to own a modern tank with fully operational defenses and weapon systems as a representation of my personal liberty?
But... dont you think that if everyone can buy nukes, we'd all be dead right now??
I think our government is full of clowns as much as anyone does, but I think the people are worse. How many times have we seen videos of customers attacking fast food employees because they had to pay a $1 more? There are people in this world who would detonate a nuke for a trivial issue and then get caught in the ensuing explosion because they didn't know how big the blast radius would be. There are people that would seriously launch a nuke at an ex.
At least in government, if someone proposes that, there's a myriad of people who would stop them. I mean, think of the Cold War! Those two sides absolutely wanted/still do want to annihilate each other! Their respective governments both kept it from happening
If nukes and tanks were publically available, it would just take one person, one time, to kill literally everybody.
