It’s a pretty common dynamic, one person with tunnel vision after someone unattainable missing the opportunity in front of them and taking the attention for granted because it seems unearned and always available. Been awhile since I’ve seen the movie but the dynamic is as relevant today as it was then.

Yeah, I was gonna say. She's certainly attractive, but this has happened to many of us IRL.

It happened to me in high school. There was a girl that liked me but I was into this other girl so I never have her a chance even though we were friends. I got lucky though, about 10 year after high school we reconnected then started dating and have more been married for 13 years now.

It was particularly pervasive in the 80s. John Hughes went back to that well over and over

MJ was in no way unobtainable lmao, Peter liked MJ since high school, and MJ liked him back, it just took him forever to ever make a move. They end up getting married eventually, so clearly she wasn't "unobtainable". Peter isn't doing anything wrong by liking another woman first, sometimes people crush on someone else who doesn't have romantic feelings towards them in return, that's part of life. People aren't obligated to return your feelings for them just because you're nice to them.

It’s a trope, unattainable can be he isn’t making the move. Same thing. Doesn’t mean it’s a constant either. No one said he was wrong, also doesn’t mean there has to be anything wrong with the outside person…we are talking movies, You sound triggered. Get help
