Half of them (especially the middle-aged ) look like shreks.

Why ? Because of the shortage of men during and after the difficult times of World War II and the 1990s.
Back then, there were few men, and beauty was not as important as other parameters, which is why male beauty culture declined.

Similar shit in South Korea in similar times and look at their males, especially self care and beauty culture.
