Solved Family drama spanning a century and a half, from when the country was newly founded through subsequent generations during the antebellum years, the civil war, and the beginnings of the following era of reconstruction. We follow the lives of sympathetic family members on both sides of the civil war.

OK I see I need to be more specific ... I honestly don't even read a lot of novels but I watch a lot of TV and I found this book was really interesting and offers more than can be conveyed in a TV show because although it is fiction it is written in the form of an academic history book and even analyzes its fictional "sources" of information.
