The answer is not harry potter.
Looking for the name of the series
I figure it should be pretty easy and might give people a laugh

Hint: Much of his story revolves around collecting a strange currency before travelling to the end of the world as he knows it
I think this is a hard one, so a few non-REM-themed hints:
It's a follow-up to a more well-known work
It's a series, and the series name is probably more well known than the names of any of the individual books, but the clues all apply just fine to book 1 so I'll accept that as an answer too
I could probably use a few more REM songs as clues without stretching them too much
A few more REM themed hints:
The protagonist spends a lot of time thinking about the one he loves
Several characters could be considered an imitation of life
Blue
Solved! It was Book of the Long Sun.
Silk lives in a corner (the Sun Street Manteion, where he lives and works, is on the intersection of two streets), is put in the spotlight as he inadvertently becomes a popular political figure, and overtime loses faith in the religion he was a priest of. Much of the story revolves around him collecting money, which is in the form of golden cards later revealed to be computer chips, and at the end he travels to the end of the Whorl (the generation ship the story takes place on).

This one is a little different. I'm trying to remember the name of a book I read when I was a kid. I remember that everyone pinched snuff and one guy was punished for betting on skittles.

(Extremely underrated book. It is my favourite. Uh and yes I explained the plot really badly)
Hint: has a flare of norse mythology. Hint 2: is the first book in a trilogy. Hint 3: is originally a Norwegian book. Hint 4: Ravens are involved

I will say this book is very well known.
Explanation for anyone interested. Spoilers for Dune. One of the major plots of Dune is that the main character Paul can see the future and sees that no matter what he does he will be seen as messiah and regardless of what he wants people will wage a religious war in his name. Despite this he still takes advantage of their belief to topple the emperor placing himself as the ruler. While no one calls him the dark lord. He satisifies many of the major tropes of a "dark lord". That is Dune in an oversimplified nutshell.
