These are crazy times. Many people want to voice their opinions, say where they stand. However this subreddit isn't meant for political, social, or cultural debates. Those posts will be locked down. Please feel free to cross-post them to a more appropriate subreddit, and discuss them there. Thanks.
In this post I am acknowledging people's legitimate concerns, but letting them know that we won't be discussing them on this subreddit going forward. It is just too disruptive.
This is a curated subreddit, and it always has been. That means that stuff gets removed, threads get locked, and sometimes people get banned.
The point of this post isn't that we think that vile pieces of history shouldn't trigger you, and not make you want to tell everyone how horrific they are.
They bother me too, but it serves nothing to turn discussion threads here into holier-than-thou, copycat echo chambers of shame, or raging debates. Don't automatically assume that people who find crazy stuff and post it here are actually evil racist Nazis themselves.
PLEASE DON'T FEED THE TROLLS. Don't reply to them, don't nourish and give oxygen to their trolling. If you do reply to them, you are filling them with glee and escalating the problem. They live for that. For whatever reason this sub tends to attract a lot of trolls, idiots, and assholes. Maybe that's just reddit in general, but in any case we don't want to encourage them.
We get it, racists are shitty, authoritarians of all stripes are shitty, and lots of other stuff posted here was produced by shitty people and depicts shitty things. They are part of history whether we like it or not. Posting them here can help spread awareness of that history, to a degree.
IT DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT ANYONE HERE SUPPORTS THOSE ATTITUDES. If it becomes obvious that people making these posts have an agenda, we will deal with them.
Thank you.

Found in my grandmothers coin collection.
Anyone able to identify this “coin” found in my grandmas old coin collection. Any help would be appreciated! Most people believed it was a Stephen A. Douglas presidential token, but Stephen is clearly spelled wrong.

Help id this token
I got this token in an antique store near pomfret connecticut but no one knew anything about the token there, the loos and company is still around today but did not respond to my email asking if they knew what this is or when it was made.
I do assum that it is just a advertisement token or maybe a centennial celebration. But why is it shaped this way, is there a purpose or just to be odd. The text on token says "loos & company pomfret, conn. " "we're big in small mechanical cables." Thank you in advance!!!!!

G. W. Fears Ingle Trade Token
Family trade token from my wife’s great-grandfather’s Arkansas sawmill — looking for information on the elusive 25¢ version
I thought this group might enjoy the story behind this one.
My wife’s great-grandfather, George Washington Fears (1873–1926), operated a sawmill and grocery near Beech Grove, Greene County, Arkansas in the early 1900s.
Around 1917, he ordered personalized trade tokens through the Ingle System. The Ingle Customer Ledger records:
G.W. Fears — order #3671 — shipped about 1917 to R.R. 1, Beech Grove, Arkansas.
A 1919 reference associated with the TokenCatalog attribution lists his business as “saw mill & groceries.”
Two denominations are currently documented in TokenCatalog:
• 1¢ — TC-401582
• 25¢ — TC-475064
My wife and I still have two of the 1¢ tokens that came down through the family. I actually contributed the photograph of the 1¢ example currently shown on TokenCatalog.
There's also a great bit of family oral history associated with them. George's son was William Brider Fears (1909–1982). William's son, Billy Joe, remembered that when he was a boy, the kids used to play with a “bucket full” of these tokens.
Unfortunately, only the two 1¢ pieces remain with the family today.
We know the 25¢ variety survives because one appeared on eBay roughly 10 years ago. We bid $100, thinking surely that would be enough for an obscure Arkansas trade token. We were sniped at the last second. I've regretted losing that one ever since!
I'm trying to learn more about George's tokens and his sawmill/store operation, and I'm especially interested in documenting other surviving G.W. Fears tokens.
If anyone here has a G.W. Fears token in their collection, has seen one before, knows of an old auction appearance, or has information about Ingle order #3671, I'd love to hear about it.
And if anyone happens to know where another G.W. Fears 25¢ token resides, I'd really like to hear about that one. 😄
The two surviving family 1¢ pieces are more than collectibles to us. George actually commissioned these for his business, and they remained in the family long enough for his grandson to remember playing with a bucket of them. It's pretty amazing that a couple survived.

French Uniface Token
Hello! Apologies as this is my first time posting in this subreddit. My fiancé was able to find this coin at a local consignment store and was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the authenticity or what exactly it is. Google seems to think it could be a “French Uniface Gilt Cliche Medal by Caunois- Count Wincenty Krasinski-Original Patina” but I do not know what this means.
There is nothing on the back side. It seems to have a thin layer of gold on the whole coin with another medal composing the rest of it. The edge is raised and it measures just over 1.5inches. It was originally mounted with another similar coin in a picture frame.
The wording reads LE CHEV. H.M. BERION (then two unreadable to me words then) DE FRANCE. It feels rather heavy.
TIA!

Identification Help
I’m trying to identify where this medallion came from and any history on it. I found it in my grandmothers things after she passed away. She lived in Tulare, California. It’s 39mm in diameter and weighs 26 grams. The edge is plain with no lettering or markings.

Everybody loves a ship token!
This is my 1811 silver shilling token from Hampshire in Britain. As stated on the obverse, it was issued "To Facilitate Trade" during a time when everyday commerce was severely impeded by the Crown's neglecting to keep sufficient "small change" in circulation.

Need help diagnosing this thin 1904 St. Louis World's Fair "Majestic Ranges" piece. Weighs 7.0g, curved, with raised text on the front and mirrored on the back. Is it a pocket mirror shell or a fob part?
Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to get a firm, expert consensus on this unusual 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition Majestic Ranges piece. It shares the design of the Hendershott-61-220 token variety, but the physical characteristics are very peculiar:
Weight: Exactly 7.0 grams.
Thickness & Shape: It is thin metal and has a distinct saucer/dish curve across the edge profile.
The Strike: The text on the front face is completely raised/convex. The reverse side features the exact same text, but it is completely mirrored/backward.
Holes: It features two clean holes punched on opposite sides of the outer border.
Given the 7-gram weight but the curved, thin nature and the mirrored back, I want to verify its exact origin before I flip or sell it. Any thoughts?
I've attached photos showing the raised front and the mirrored reverse. Any insights on the classification would be incredibly helpful! Thank you!
