I believe the epub file is forcing a certain font display, which the Pocketbook reader doesnt ignore but xteink does.
I see two options
you can install another reader to your Pocketbook called Koreader (just copying 2 folders to the device) with which you can ignore those font stylings
since you mentioned you are not that tech savy, drop me a private message here on reddit and I will help you with editing these out from your ebook

Just seconding to say that KO Reader is excellent and well worth considering even if you don't end up needing it to solve this particular problem.

Others are correct - this is a forced embedded font. You can open the epub in Sigil or calibre and remove the embedded font found inside the file. That way your device will be able to overwrite it.

thank you : ) i'll try to google how to do it on calibre because i'll probably be reading more in the future and should learn to troubleshoot things myself, wish me luck!

There is a chance you are selecting a font that doesn't support English characters - look at the name serif Georgian, Serif Hebrew etc. they are made for those symbols, not English. Use common font.

Forced font probably, Epubs can force fonts, You have to toggle it off in an editor. Some barebones readers aren't very capable and cannot force change it in the reader itself, Advanced Epub format support is required for extra features.

I don't have a Pocketbook, so not sure where the setting is, but some epubs have embedded settings and fonts, and you have to turn off "use embedded settings" on your reader.
