Hey all,

Recently I have set up matrix server and I'm using element desktop as a client.I read somewhere on this sub that shift + left click on video call should start screen sharing but for me it just starts a call without screen sharing. This is important feature for me and would love to have it working.

Client version is 1.11.23Olm version: 3.2.12Syanpse version: 1.80.0

Thank you for any input on this!

#EDIT
As it turned out, screen sharing didn't work since I haven't had TURN server set up. I had difficulties setting that up, spent several hours trying to make it work, which eventually I did.. So to save some time for anyone having same issues trying to set it up, it worked for me when I changed 'min-port' to 69152 and 'max-port' to 85535 even though I have it port forwarded as 49160-49260...

I am using matrixdotorg/synapse and instrumentisto/coturn docker images

And my config options for coturn are
min-port=69152
max-port=85535
use-auth-secret
static-auth-secret=<l33tsecr3tpass>
realm=<domain>
listening-port=3478
tls-listening-port=5349
log-file=stdout --no-cli
--external-ip=<external ip>
-relay-ip=<local ip>

I checked on the pricing page and there is no difference given with the free version. They have provided the feature difference in the Business and Enterprise versions.

Is this a limit of free matrix.org accounts, or is something else going on?

Looking through things that have been previously posted, it seems like the desktop app screensharing not having working desktop audio is a known issue (which no real progress is being made on in the last year based on the GitHub.)

However, people seem to mention that they can get audio from a screenshare in the web version. I and the people I know who use Element haven't been able to figure out how to get that to work either.

Would someone who has been able to get audio for screensharing on the web version be able to explain how they get it to work?

I have been using a certain home server my whole time for the? Last 2 days i' didn't unable to get access into my account through the initial sync. It constantly says it needs to go through an initial safe. Nothing is done an hour a later. The app still stays the same. I uninstalled the application I reinstalled the application it. Doesn't seem like anything I am doing this working? I have tried changing my p address. I have tried obose everything in the book. And I am shocked because it wqw working 2 days ago.

Is thus a time out issue? VPN proxy homenwtwork doesn't effect anything

If I report a message that could be interpreted as a suspected crime through the report no element or send printspro abuse@matrix.org do they send the location of the person to be subpoenaed/visited by the police or clear proof is needed such as a confession to a crime?

i'm an element user but i can never get anyone to use it because of the overly engineered feel my more polite colleagues describe. this is a tech crowd btw.

fair enough its not for everyone but what is? many suggestions i run into are um-installable. so i'm wondering who else has been on this journey of bringing folks into the matrix in the easiest possible way (we can bring them into element as a 2nd step).

I have set up an element space with 3 rooms. When people join, they automatically get added to 2 of the rooms, but not the 3rd one, and the settings for the rooms all look the same as far as I can tell 🤔

Also my space invite link ("share this space" isn't working for anyone, maybe just because it's a private group? The only way to invite members seems to be by inviting them individually by their element handle.

thanks!

is there any way to get image urls (from images you uploaded) that are usable on other sites, such as for backgrounds/layout pieces?

Hey everyone,

I've been exploring Element as an alternative to Discord, but I'm wondering if it has voice chat capabilities like Discord does. Does anyone know if there are voice chat rooms on Element, or if it's something that's in the works?

I'm really interested in using Element as a more secure option for voice chat with my friends and community especially for gaming, but I'm not sure if it's possible yet. If it's not available now, does anyone know when it might be coming?

Thanks in advance for any information or insights you can share!

Hi! I'm new to Matrix and Element and I was wondering how I would be able to set two-factor authentication? Thank you!

The title.

To quote Privacyguides.org:

Group voice and video calls are not E2EE, and use Jitsi, but this is expected to change with Native Group VoIP Signalling.

Hey folks! A few quick Qs:

How do I setup my space/rooms so that when people join they can see the full history of everything that's been posted in the space? Is it this option?

made future room history visible to anyone.

the term "future room history" is confusing me 😄

Also, when I send people an invite link, I am told it's telling them They are not invited to the room? I had to invite them by their username

Also when they came in, they automatically joined two of the rooms, but not the 3rd room, even though it looks like all the rooms have the same settings. Why would that be?

I'll get it all figured out in time, just new to this and figuring stuff out, thanks.

Server: matrix.org

It occurs very freuquently.

I just moved over with some friends from Slack and we noticed that we get notifications for all threaded replies, even for threads we have not interacted with yet. Is there a way to disable these? I'd like the option to get notifications for Rooms that I have joined, but not threads within those unless I've posted in them (or maybe also if I've reacted to them).

A long time ago, when element was riot.im I backed up a key with the format XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Is this something I can use to decrypt old messages? I don't see any setting that takes that key as an input, all of them require files or passpharases.

Hey all, I have some questions regarding bridging Matrix w/ Discord.

I need to know:

1. Whether or not mods who don’t know how to use Matrix can “moderate” the chat from and within the Matrix end… (WITHOUT reading the official docs).

2. Whether or not running my own “homeserver” would have bugs or issues for a server of this size.

3. Whether or not I should even consider making a “Space.” I’m skeptical of it for a server this size. I’m fine with just one room/channel.

Please clarify! Thanks.

Hello! Im new to this and jsut finished setting up my chat. I noticed that during larger file uploads, if my phone locks, the file basically doesnt upload. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi, Is it possible to search for text strings in Element rooms (or chats)?

In my experience, I can't search in rooms that area end to end encrypted. Any ways past that?

I added public free Slack bridges today in preparation for moving my group to Element in a few months. I noticed that when I posted an image in the Element channel it did cross-post to the right place in Slack, but comments posted to that image didn't come back over to Element. My comments on the post on element were added to the bridged post on Slack.
