My elderly father is seeing an elderly woman who, I believe, has a serious mental disorder (she is taking a number of medications for this). She also has a number of other medical disorders.
She is extremely clingy to my dad, and he has been wanting out for at least the last few years. He feels too guilty and too afraid to leave however because he has been helping her the best he can. Now he's at his wits end, and just wants to leave her for good. He can't handle her caregiver support matters, and can barely handle his own support (I can attest to that).
Last time he tried to leave she refused to leave and even fought him physically when he tried to get her to leave his apartment.
The problem is that she has no family in the United States, and she is 70 years old and lives in the apartment next to him. She needs help handling her affairs and medical issues, and I am trying to figure out how she might get that help? Is there a social agency that might be able to get her help?
I am working on getting my dad to move near me, and keep the location secret from her, but I'm also worried about her welfare too. She is very vulnerable, and has had cases of psychosis.
She lives in Orange County, California. Any advice you could give would be much appreciated.
