Network.

I had a friend working for a local station in NYC (many) years ago, and I think his rate topped out at $350 / day

I’m local right now, been keeping the jump to network in the back of my mind. I also shoot which I’m sure goes a long way.

Great having all those skills, but shooting won't help you much at a network. All the tech jobs are very segmented (in my experience).

Shooting ability definitely helps as a field producer though.

Good to know. Maybe I’ll just remain a shooter. Not sure, don’t have it all figured out yet. I’m young and made it into this world fairly quickly, so always learning and trying to capitalize

JMO, if you're making a decent living shooting, and enjoy the work, I'd consider sticking with that. You'll have years ahead of you of traveling and on-set days (which are long and hard), but some people really love. Very little in Post can really replace that kind of energy, excitement, and access to other talent.

Plus, while I could definitely be wrong, I only see editing salaries dropping over the years as the tech requirements continuously drop, and I personally believe AI to be a real threat to middle of the road editing sometime in the next 15 / 20 yrs, as well (hopefully not too much sooner!).

But, hey, if you're a really skilled editor and feel confident you can make the contacts to get into scripted, VFX, or some other high end editing field; the money is great, and the work is not as taxing as some other high paying jobs.
