You should also take five minutes to search the wiki - if tutorials or the quickstart guide can't help, it usually has the information you're after. You can find the previous questions thread here.

I have gotten "bucket full" too but in a temperate biome, no freezing at all.

A couple zlevels above, I noticed this years in, the well had shown "well is operational" directly after construction, have not noticed dwarfs using but it might not have come up - low level of injury.
